hidden kill switch?
i live in a major metropolitan city and i'm always trying to think of security alternatives for my motorcycle. an alarm wouldn't work because i live in an apt building and it takes a good 3-5 minutes to get outdoors. chaining it up is an option but the poles may or may not be blocked by a car. installing a lojack device is my least favorite option...i have four neighbors with motorycles and scooters on my block and we all look out after our bikes. random people will often sit on our scooters and pretend it's theirs and sometimes will attempt to move it in order to get into a parking spot. the motorcycles are a different story, people stay away from them...unless they're up to no good.
so i'm thinking like a thief and the easiest way to take a bike is to lift it onto a truck/trailer and haul it off. okay, if you're gonna do that then i really have no defense (other than the security cameras on our building). the other method is to stick a screwdriver, or similar device, into the ignition and essentially force start it. this method is preventable...my ignition would have to be replaced but they wouldn't get away with my bike. i have a 1974 Vespa Primavera that has a kick start and concievably, anyone can jump on and take off with it....hence i installed a hidden kill switch. on our ninja's, how difficult would it be to rewire the kickstand start disabler to a toggle switch hidden somewhere, let's say we relocate it under the seat cowl? is it even possible? wait a second...is it a start disabler or a kill switch? |

Looking at this thread:
http://www.ninjette.org/forums/showthread.php?t=22910 it looks like Racer X has installed one on his machine, might be worth a PM.

You could kill the ignition or starter, depending. Using the kickstand sw, it would still start in "N".... would just kill the motor when put in gear.

Chain it up to a heavy concrete anchor in the ground.
Get insurance, that's what it's for, and don't worry about it. |
