Lie down to see what MotoGP BP is like
Went to the motorcycle show this past weekend and was surprised to find that Mark Neale, the filmmaker behind all the MotoGP documentaries (Hitting the Apex, Faster, Fastest, and The Doctor, the Tornado and the Kentucky Kid) had a booth set up. Nice guy. Too bad the $#@()#! stunt show was so loud I couldn't chat with him.
I picked up his latest DVD (Hitting the Apex) and spent a couple of hours Sunday watching it. As usual, I tried to go to school with all that lovely super-slo-mo footage. What struck me on this viewing was that in between the extreme bike lean and the riders' upper body position, their spines are consistently parallel to the ground as seen from behind, or very close to it. So I lay down on the couch to get my head wrapped around what that must be like. Wow.

It was a good film. I'll post a screencap from the section that talked about Rossi's style evolution when I get home. It's related to your comments, iirc. You've also reminded me of this vid:

This is what I had in mind. Almost forgot I said I'd post it.
Parallel indeed. And this is the clip they used just before to emphasize the style change:
