Smile Bring back 1989!! What has happened to the baby ninja?

Link to original page on YouTube.

The year is 1989. The ZXR250 is born. 130MPH 0-60 4 ish seconds.
Red line is 19,000 rpm. What a bike for the cc's and the time.
Ours seem lame in comparison.
It would be nice to see what a modern day 250 ninja would be like with no power or price restrictions.
It seems like a step back but I still love mine.

Everything cool was made in the mid to late 80's and very early 90's.

..and only available in Japan.

I would love a modern 2-stroke 250cc street bike. My first bike was a '72 Yamaha RD250. That bike had expansion chambers and would power wheelie in second.

I do wonder why we can't get more power out of the 250. A 600 gets 100hp, could we not at least get a solid 35-40?

I am sure we had them in u.k . More than likely a 'grey import'

There is a Yamaha 250 four cylinder that comes to Maxton . It is a very cool bike 19000 rpm red line it sounds great going down the track. But the top speed is about 110 without a fairing and well under 120 faired.
Considering the complicationss and expence of a 19000 RPM engine and the total lack of low RPM power. I am happy with our little Ninja. The frame and suspension is better than ours though .

Yes, there were in the UK and Australia as grey imports. They were a 250cc I-4 4-stroke that produced about 45hp at the crank. Oddly enough, Kawasaki Japan still makes that motor in a ZRX style naked sport bike only available in Japan. They also still make the 400cc I-4 in a ZRX style bike as well, again only available in Japan.

This was my first 'real' bike back in 1986.
Leave all oppostion in a cloud of two stroke smoke.
58 HP and 120 MPH. Great fun for a spotty 18 Yr old.
In the U.K these had great 'Hooligan' status.
I remember my mates allways turning the ignition on and off to hear the exhaust valve motors resetting. Seemed amazing technology at the time lol.

The local time machine. I have found a couple in Canada and there are some in Australia.

Mostly Honda and Yamaha. Kawasaki's are rare. I know of one zx2r in the US. But I am sure there are more,, Engine parts are all but nonexistent.at least on the web, I wanted to build a turbo 250 four. But there is just nothing available. The owner of this FZR searched for four years.

There are a lot of RD and TZ Yamaha's around . The RD 350 is great ,The Banshee 4x4 uses the same motor .So parts are everywhere , You can even get big bore kits

Ebay piece by piece.

I still ponder piecing out the YSR50 every single morning.
I have had my finger over the buy it now button for a ysr 50 frame about 400 times by now.

I'm about 99% sure if I wasn't saving for a real bike I'd have bought it a few weeks ago lol

The cool thing about motorcycles is putting an old classic together piece by piece from ebay wouldn't really be all that out of the question to the average Joe who might want a classic he can't find! Dang internet made it possible for anyone to get anything anywhere.

Every paycheck order another piece to the puzzle or two. start with frame/fork so you have something to stare at.

I would be happy with any sub 400cc SS as a second bike alongside something like a Ninja 1000 or Z1000
