I stole Adrian's bike and touched her insides

Haha I have Adrians' bike in my possession!
I'm fondling her insides
We hit Idyllwild yesterday all the way through and had some good mexican food on the hill! Adrians' treat!
I bet you he has video of my sloppy riding. I haven't had the time to ride in weeks!
He also got a first hand view of my gear gauge in action!

Should have his valve shim job finished today.
Pulling the shims now, measuring, doing the math and slappin' them back in!

If anyone needs valve jobs in Socal let me know!

Best to have the work done by a 250 rider who works with pride, no?

PS anyone want to buy a huge heavy transmission rebuilding table?

Houston we have your numbers!
Count down to reassembly and ignition then blastoff!

The ones are your old shims and their thickness measurements.

Here is the math as calculated from the owners service manual.
I show that your cylinder two exhaust valves were both out of spec. Lash-wise.
Everything else was either in the middle of spec or just barely inside spec. The top half o the page is the measured lash before teardown. In inches and MM.

The math on the bottom shows the shims the math outputs (D) and the shims I rounded the math out to (R for replaced) circled. these are the shim sizes (R) that I will be putting back in your bike. (AFTER I triple check my math and numbers lol) You'll notice I round out on the side of a loose valve instead of a tight one. =)

Don't we wish we could all get this sheet from our mechanics after a valve job?

It sure would improve my confidence in mechanics.

Heck I'll even properly re grease all the engine internals when I put'em back together.

OK the very next time I do a valve job I promise I will video it.
Who needs a valve job in LA and is willing to lock the bike in my garage while I do the job and video it?

Hehe, if I was anywhere within 500mi of you man (instead of 5x that distance...), I'd take you up on that. Would love to have a proper garage to do valves in, instead of spreadin' out an old shower curtain to catch the small bits before the get eaten by the grass & gravel around my apartment.

Definitely eager to see that shift gauge!

Bring your bike over Kev you won't even recognize her when you get her back. lol
Bring any support items you can like coolant, oil, filters, crush washers, oil o-rings, burritos, dorritos and gordita supremes!
Spark plugs while you're down there isn't a bad idear either.

I can put out shift gauges now but they aren't cased and I haven't finished the shift light. When I do they will be so cool. Just haven't had the time between renovating a house from the 60's, fishing, working on bikes, building rods and doing regular work too.

I want to finish the gauges so bad. I need some more inspiration. They really work! I love them and believe they could do very good some day!

ADRIAN DON"T LET ME FORGET TO ADJUST THE STEERING STEM PLAY ON YOUR BIKE EITHER.
After the carb work and tightening all your loose bolts!

Doh!
That could be a problem!
It's a 24-48 hour process, assuming all goes smoothly and I don't blow up your engine and have to trade you mine. lol
Adrian could come get his bike now if he want. I spent 24 hours doing the valve job, oil change, coolant flush, spark plugs and removing the kleen air system and plugging all the holes it made. I'm gonna spend another day or two doing the idle mix and synchronization and cleaning his idle jets so he can start it for another year or two without issues. If anything goes wrong now it will be a bad battery and not my fault! Also I think he could do without the snorkel.

I need to start having people sign waivers so I can keep my engine if any accidents ever happen. I'm only human and it's always possible!

Let me know the next three day weekend we can try and get a gauge fitted to your bike too with the valve job. I have to send one to Paul to play with also when I get them going. When you see it in person it's pretty impressive.

We can at least fit the wiring to have there for when I get the gauges complete at the very least.

Also, the valve job video... don't forget again!

At first I was bummed that you beat me to the punch Kev... but let me know if you are still willing to do this and what I would need to provide... I'm nearing 7500 and I also wouldn't mind someone playing with the tuning to see if we can get it even better than it currently is.

I have 2 cages besides my 250... so leaving it at your place wouldn't be a problem KC... just let me know what kinda money and what kinda stuff is necessary and when you would need me to drop it off

Your bike will be done Tomorrow evening Adrian if you'd like to schedule a pick-up. (Sunday night broman)

I didn't catch any fish this morning and will get back to work yanking the carb shortly.

Whoever wants the next valve job bring the bike over.

I think I have enough honda bond. I need 2 quarts coolant (50/50 mix anti-freeze and distilled water) available at moto shop, 2 quarts Mobile 1 synthetic 4T racing oil, 1 oil filter, 1 crunch washer, 1 oil filter o-ring and 2 spark plugs for each bike. I might even need some more shims. (which could delay the job shortly while I order shims)

Also, I have to make you guys sign something saying I'm not responsible if I ruin your engine head. I will do my best work I can but I really can't pony up any money if I mess up. I put my heart and soul and pride into my work though, that's about all I can give you! I can also put a huge lock on your bike in my garage while it's here and lock it to a 400lb transmission rebuilding table that isn't going anywhere without me knowing it.

As long as everyone is OK with that, I can do valve jobs all day long.

I'll have to decide a fee at some point. I don't even know if that's legal to discuss or not withotu a business license so we're just doing this "as friends" for now and will discuss details when we sign waivers.

If this sounds good to you, send me a PM for my addy, load up your bike, stop by the moto shop for the parts and bring it all over. I'll call you when she's done and give you number sheets from what I find on the inside.

If you guys want your CA emissions removed I can (and would prefer) to do that also, but need a PCV valve like I need right now for adrians' bike too. lol. Autozone. $4.
I believe it prevents vapor from exiting the tank tubes at engine off rest.

Well, you don't have to worry about emissions on my bike... it's a 49 state bike and I've already removed the Kleen system anyway with a block off plate and a vacumn fitting. Not sure when this would be best for me... but I would imagine within the month of July would be when I would need it done. I'll keep an eye on this one. thanks again in advance

Buy this!

And this!

Then you're bike will be fully modded!
Loud, but fully modded!
you can shed more weight on the huge airbox toooo!

I'm going to leave your carbs alone for now. It's hard to pull them with the air box in the way.
Order those parts and bring the bike back for another ride one day and wait here while I jet it and pull the airbox out.
You'll sh*t a brick when you see Idyllwild backwards too. I also got the A/C fixed so it's not a nightmare anymore in the garage.

Steering play is next then I'm putting her back together for now.

Fishing! Let's ride up to bishop and fish!

Got my bike back from KC the Super Ninja 250R mechanic.....
And the verdict is.......FREAKIN' AMAZING......

The bike is running great! Rode her home from Banning to Glendora.....in 90 degree heat middle of the day......approximately 55 miles doing 80-90 mph on the freeway with absolutely noooooo issues......I hit 100 a few times but mostly stayed within the 80-90mph range for a good hour. She's got great power all the way through the powerband.

Just got back from a cruise around town and she's still purring like a well fed kitten on warm night. Excellent job KC- you know your Sh*t! I will get those parts and then you can finish touching her insides like she likes it. Who needs to go to a dealer- this is the guy that does it all. Let me know when you want to hit GMR.

I tell him to take the Slow Lane home because if anything happens it will be in the first hundred miles and he says he went 90 all the way home. lol

You's crazy brother. I wouldn't have anyone else inside your engine but me making sure everything is golden per my inspection.

Take it easy on her the first 500 miles. Make sure nothing ceases up on you.
I did just have the cam caps off. They are like a bearing with no BB's in it. If they don't lube right the engine can cease up. Make sure to warm her up real good before riding and keep checking the oil level when cool before and after riding.

I'll come sleep in your garage and do the jetting and airbox delete when you get the stuff.
