I Bought an '86... It's so rad.

I just bought my dream Ninja (the bike I originally wanted when I decided I'd learn on a small bike, but could never find one). The original Ninjette.

It's so cool, and I have matching vintage AGV race leathers/boots/gloves to go with it.

Looks like someone doodled a concept bike, and Kawasaki was all "Yeah. Build it."

I want Japanese fairings.

Really nice motorbike. As very few are left in such condition, I'd suggest to please don't go nuts "modding" it. Other than maintenance....LITFA (leave it the eff alone)

The only things I'm going to do to it are delete the license plate bracket (I'm printing a filler panel right now) and replace the US fairings with the JDM ones (the integrated turn signals are 100% hot ****).

Beyond that; maybe a km/h speedometer and a single sided exhaust.

I always keep original parts, and limit modifications to bolt-on nonsense... except for my FZR400 (It's heavily customized, and I will never sell that bike)

Awesome bike, can't wait to see the JDM fairings, but how are you planning on getting those?

I have a friend in Japan who's helping me navigate the used motorcycle parts market over there. When we find what I need; he'll purchase and ship them to me.

We've already found several good fairings, but we've also had a pretty gnarly time finding turn signal lenses.

This is such fun bike! My youngest brother wanted one since we 1st saw it in 1988 @ Laguna Seca on return of MotoGP. The integrated turn-signals in fairings of non-U.S. models look so much better! If you can, find the aftermarket Lockhart chin-fairing. Really tucks in that front wheel so it doesn't look all alone out front.

I still can't believe this guy stripped this bike down to turn into track-bike. What a shame!!!

Found cool article about it when first came out. http://www.yeoldecycleshoppe.com/roa...250r-road-test

distinctly recall trying to dissuade the (pictured) '86 owner from doing what he did. Darn shame.

That's so cool, and lucky too, I'm jealous 😁 good luck, and try to keep that JDM purity.

For now I'm going to replace the ugly turn signal stalks with flush mounted indicators (retro styled ones that I will color match). The fairings are cracked in multiple places on both sides, so it's gonna be a lot of hot staples and fiberglass on the inside... I won't feel too guilty about drilling an extra hole.

The bike I got comes with a box full of spares and a Targa chin-fairing (the Team Kawasaki styled one) but that Lockhart one looks pretty rad.

You just HAD to bring that up again...just when I was starting to settle down...

Worst choice to make into a track bike in recent memory.

'86 is my favorite generation. With the half fairing, and I favor the black and red scheme. If I could get one of these new in crate I swear I'd pay a LOT of money for it and not change a damn thing. Unfortunately most are ratted out hard these days.

It's fairing repair day.
The hot staple is now one of my favorite tools (I highly recommend getting one) it's gonna save me TONS of money on fairings.

Before you get mad; these fairings are pretty trashed., and I'm not gonna lose any sleep filling and drilling for new flush-mount indicators.

I need to figure out what the paint code is for this bike so I can get it resprayed.

Still needs a license plate bracket and some paint.

Can't figure out why my other build posts don't show up.

One of them was in the moderation queue, I just approved it. Nothing should have been lost, and there's nothing in the queue at this point. Posts from new users (I forget if it's 25 posts or 50 posts where it switches) have a much more picky spam filter to fight the bots/spammers, and things like many images in a post often trigger it. Once you post a bit more, it will be less likely to trigger it for future posts.

You should see a notification as soon as you post that it is in the moderation queue; if you ever do see that you can PM me and I'll approve it next time I log in.

One of my coworkers at my new job (Zero Motorcycles) cronched my bike in the parking lot... and he didn't have insurance.

Luckily, he's making good on his promise to replace all of the damaged parts.
Kinda bummed that I couldn't find any white and/or Japanese fairings.
