Ducati Hawk Build

Just thought I'd start a thread for my Ducati/Hawk build. As of now I've only got parts together. I just picked up a 1993 VFR750 parts bike for $500. Planning on using the rear tire + spindle, hoping to be able to part out the rest. Also currently waiting for my Ducati 748 Tank to arrive. Here's pictures of what I have so far.

I'll update this whenever there's news.

Overall VFR Parts Bike (I have plastics separately)

Parts Rim

Ducati Tail, Seats, Subframe

Ducati Airbox Fairing

Very cool! What's the idea? Which parts are going to be used where?

The plan is to get it all fitted to my 1988 Honda Hawk 650

Once I get the Ducati tank I can start looking at how it is all going to fit on, as the location and mount for the tail is going to depend on where the tank is positioned.

I've seen a few Frankenbike build threads over the years, some turn out awesome.

Got the gas tank today. The inside needs to get dusted and cleaned out, but it doesn't look like there's any rust. I'm hoping to find some tank wing protectors to cover up the rash on the left side.

Alright, I haven't updated this in forever, but I have some major updates for anyone interested!

How it sat for a while. VFR750 spindle, rear wheel, Galfer Wave Rotor, Fox Twin Clicker rear shock.

Putting the CBR954 front end on.

Wheel and fender on.

Fabbing up the Ducati subframe. .5" MDF used as prototype brackets.

Waterjetted final brackets out of .5" 6061 T6 aluminum. Waterjets are awesome.

Subframe installed with brackets.

Yep, it works!

Rear brake line routed through the swingarm.

Beginning of the exhaust fabbing. Headers are Supertrapp.

Exhaust from CBR F4i. Exhaust cut down 5". Total length now 11"

Re-packed and riveted back together.

Jetted carbs with UNI pod filters. Also seen is a Mikuni dual outlet vacuum fuel pump.

Rear tank mount.

Headlight brackets.

Almost ready!

Exhaust mid-pipe cut down a bit.

Complete!

Great job! The bike looks good; do you plan on painting the fairings and gas tank the same color? I always loved that street fighter look, and the koso guages look great too .

Thanks! Plans for this weekend include putting on a new custom choke lever on the front valve cover, changing out the pilot jets, and paint the rear hugger black.

Yeah I eventually want to get it repainted close to the stock grey. I'm thinking if I just get the gas tank painted yellow for the time being though it will look alright.

great work on the bike! i love seeing people doing this kind of work, its something i really enjoy doing as well

it looked like a reasonably big sports bike in the pictures, but then you made it look small in the video! maybe your really tall! hehe...

wish it were cheaper to get parts over here... id never be able to stop modding bikes if it were. lol
