2013 Ninja 250r

My friend's boss is selling his 2013 Kawasaki Ninja 250r for $3,500. He says it has "practically no miles". My friend suggested I offer and could get it for $3,000. My concern is the resale value next year, when I can afford to get the 2015 N650r. Any thoughts of what you think it'll be worth (assuming it's well taken care of, not laid down, etc)?

Welcome Brain!

Your friend sounds logical, have a look and see for yourself. Market value is regional at best, but ninja's hold their value very well. Have a look at your current market, -$500 for your years use and see if it works in your goals.

Thanks for the advice csmith! I guess that's what I wasn't sure of, is how much in value it'd decrease because of the year gap...but if you think $500 is a good estimate then that gives me a great frame of reference. My other option was to buy a used, older bike for under $2k, but my friend says that could be really risky, and probably not worth it.

Not that it makes much difference in the long run, but I was under the impression that 2013 is the first year Kawi offered the 300 rather than the 250.

Regardless if the CCs, the year, or my impression is off, it'll still hold value if well maintained.

What do you want? if it's not what you really want, you may want to wait. The 300/250 is a great bike, $3000 is a good price too. Ask if it still has the warranty, or if you can extend it.

My 300 is still under warranty until 12/2017.

I wouldn't pay that for a 250. 3000-3500 is about the going rate for a 2013 300, based on what I've seen. You can buy 250s with fairly low mileage for closer to 2K. The practically no miles part might put the value up a little, but it wouldn't count for much if I was the buyer. Just my 2 cents.

If this is your first bike, it's might be a big assumption to assume it won't have been down a year from now.

I never dropped my 250 over two years of ownership I waited until I got a more expensive bike to experience my first driveway drop! LOL.

There are no 2013 ninja 250(in the USA). Right there the guy is either dishonest or does not know what he is talking about. Either case my answer to anything he is selling would be, no thanks.

Lucky you! I bought mine at the end of winter, parked it outside my house on the frozen ground in the sun, and later came home to find it sleeping in a big mud puddle.
