I made the mistake of leaning more on my GPS then instinct when I led my group back. Consequently, @algs26 and I took Ridge Rd to 49, rather than the faster 88. It did cut a corner though, and we saw this really strange house on the way. It looked like a castle, had fake buffalo and goats in the yard, and freakin' carnival rides out front. I now call it "Little Neverland Ranch." I found it on google street view and Zillow. You can't make out any detail of the house, but you do see a bit of weirdness.

HAHAHA yep, have passed that house a few times and always end up whipping my head around trying to see WTF. One day I'll see it before I am passing it and actually stop to get pictures.

I've seen that house. I believe it's owned by an executive from the nearby Jackson Rancheria Casino.

That makes since, as it's very close via overhead view. I wouldn't be surprised if there's a back-road connecting him/her to work. But those carnival rides... that's so weird/awesome-ish.

Unfortunately, my camera was pointed way too high so I didn't get much useful footage.

I like the second shot, that just looks cool!

I told @greenaero that I loved the view in my mirror of everyone coming down some of the smaller hills. Just a line of Ninjas trailing behind me as far as I could see. That was awesome!

Cleaned out my camera this week and have some of the video of this ride in this episode.

Sadly guys, much of the area you visited on this ride has been destroyed by an enormous fire, and it's still going on. Close to 70,000 acres. Thoughts and prayers to the folks living in the area. It's very sad. A couple of lives were lost, many homes and structures destroyed. Scores of horses, cows and pets had to be cut loose to fend for themselves, as evacuation time wasn't available. The rescue efforts for these animals continue, and will for weeks to come. It will be a slow process to rebuild.

The Butte Fire is close, but not in the area we rode in (unless someone headed home south on 49 out of Jackson).

Our ride was primarily between Wentworth Springs and Hwy 88 and the fire hasn't crossed 88 (here's hoping is does not).

The fires in CA are bad this year and starting to stack on top of each other. I've family in Hidden Valley Lake who needed to evacuate Saturday night as the Valley Fire roared over them.

Very sad to watch the fires in the news!
At the same time we have had and will have continuous rain over Florida this week.
