Getting some gravel in CB500X travels - June 17-19, 2016

Summer vacation part 2!
(part one is here)

While I still fully trusted my tires, some part of me (the wiser, more intelligent part) was screaming at me to change them for some reason...

So, time to go out an play on the Honda!

My friend Greg called up and asked what I was doing Friday. Since it was basically "Nothing" he played hookey and we went out to explore some more dirt roads and get me some more experience on slightly rougher terrain.

We took the road up towards Bowman Lake with the intent of heading out towards Meadow Lake. However, the road up was a bit more rocky and rough than I was ready for so in the interest of not killing my interest too soon, we bailed out at Bowman and headed back down towards Washington and Malakoff Diggins where I had already ridden and was able to take a new fun road around and over the Yuba River.

I would have video for this, except the rocky road was just rough enough that my camera mount rattled right off my helmet so the camera spent the day in my tank bag. Phooey.

Saturday, I met up with my friend J on his KLR to go explore the Lincoln Highway that runs along the side of Highway 50. Nothing new so very few pictures, but the point of the trip was to hang out with my friend and point out places he may not have been. We stopped over at Middlegate for lunch (love their Western Burger) and headed up and over Carroll Summit for some twisties, before making Austin our turn around point and playing in the twisties all over again.

We even saw a lone bighorn sheep!!!

Sunday, we headed up the mountain to round off some tires and so another super yummy lunch at Walker Burger followed by a trip up and over Monitor Pass, Ebbetts Pass, and then back over Carson Pass. No pictures or video this trip because, hey, I've already taken dozens of shots of all these roads anyway. I did make one request though when we got back to Gardnerville - No more Hwy 88 until they pave the damn thing! The patch job repair work makes riding at any sort of speed rough and rattly! Ugh

Sounds like a great time. Where along your route was that abandoned looking cabin? The bridge and the stream are really nice pictures!

The cabin is in North Bloomfield at the Malakoff Diggins State Park, just north of Hwy 20.

Finally (FINALLY!) got the video finished and uploaded. This only covers Parts 2 and 3 since Part 1 was all on roads I've done before so didn't bother turning the camera on that ride.

Link to original page on YouTube.
