RYAN Farquhar has been moved back to intensive care following his crash at this year’s North West 200.

A spokesman for the Belfast Trust has said that Farquhar is ‘seriously ill’.

After losing the front of his bike at the Black Hill section of the Port Rush circuit during the Supertwins race at this year’s NW200, the 40-year-old racer was struck by Dan Cooper and sustained broken ribs and internal bleeding. He was airlifted to hospital in Belfast where he underwent an operation on his liver.

After four days in intensive care, doctors decided he was stable enough to be moved to a ward.

Farquhar was pictured in bed in hospital, with his wife by his side. It was believed he was making a steady recovery. The Belfast Telegraph has reported that a friend of the Farquhar's has said that his deterioration has come 'out of the blue'.

Dan Cooper sustained two dislocated shoulders and was also taken to hospital before being later discharged.

Farquhar is a five-time winner at the North West 200. He retired from road racing in 2012, but made a return in 2014.
