Did I overpay for my 250?
Recently bought a 2007 ninja 250 for $2000. Bike is in good condition, about 6200 miles, and has a small crack in one of the fairings. I'm wondering if I overpaid? Nothing I can do about it now, but just wondering.

Can't really speak on the older gen but I paid $4600 OTD on my 2010 Ninja 250 from a dealer in November. I wouldn't worry about it. Just have fun and ride safe.

Probably just a bit, only cause of the cracked fairing. You should still be able to sell it for within a few hundred of what you got it for. Its not something you should be losing sleep over.

I am happy with the bike, it runs well, and im using it to learn on.
I didnt attempt to negotiate the price at all, I was excited about buying a bike so I just said yes to the price, I got it off craigslist. I wish I had negotiated a bit, but im happy as long as I didnt overpay too much.. |

Two grand is a good price. Throw a sticker over the damage and forget about it.
Did it have any maintenance recorrds? If not, you might want to change the oil and have a mechanic take a looksee at the bike. Ride safe! |

should I do another oil change since is been sitting for a few months? I rode it for the first time earlier today and it seemed to be running pretty good |

I would say you did ok
Just as a comparison I sold my old '95 the other day with a pretty bad oil leak a bald rear tire, needing a chain and over 18,000 miles with pretty beat up plastics. I sold it in less than a day for just under $1000.
I bought it at the very end of th '09 season with just under 9000 miles for 1100. If you take care of it if you sell in a few years you will be able to get most of the price back. |

It's kinda like paying $2.00 to get $40 from the ATM immediately in front of you. You could maybe take 20 minutes to go to your bank and save the $2.00, but for most people 20 minutes of time is worth more than $2.00. |

Its on the high end of a fair price. You picked a good bike to learn on. Ninjas are great bikes. You wont be disappointed.
As far as the price, the damaged plastics should have brought the price down a bit. The mileage is about right. If there is telltale rust around the steering nut, it means the bike was kept outside in the rain. Look carefully inside the gas tank for any signs of rust. Any rust there drops the price significantly. Here's an odd fact. If the mileage was under 1000 miles on a bike that old, then that is bad too. That low of miles means that the bike has been sitting somewhere and not being ridden. Sitting like that clogs up the carbs and otherwise wreaks havok with the fuel system. |

Yeah man that's still a kick-butt bike and very low miles. I'd say you did fine.

You saw what you wanted/needed in great riding condition (you'll scratch something too ebentually) and bought it. It's running great so you did great price wise as well. Fill it with synthetic golden spectro and put in an uni oil filter. She likes you now, make her love you.

paid 2900 for my 09 ninja with 950 miles exactly what KBB suggested. It was hard as hell to find one for a resonable price with no damage. I was very lucky.

Yes, you did over pay. However, the worst part is that you got ancy and didn't even bargain at all. Personally, I'd never, ever buy the old style ninja based on looks alone, but I wouldn't have paid more than $1300-$1500 for it.
The good news is that as long as you don't mess it up and keep it clean and maintained, there's no reason you won't be able to get $1300-$1500 for it a year or two from now. That seems to be about the rock bottom value for the 250's, assuming they are low mileage and in good condition. |

+1 Don't care how many aftermarket parts a pre-gen has on it or miles, or condition. I would not pay more than $1500. I sold mine back in 2008 for $1500 (fully modded) + OEM parts swapped out. With the new-gen out why are people still buying the pre-gens? Save a little more and get yourself a new gen. |

I dont think you did horrible. If you like it dont worry too much about it. Ive bought and sold bikes for a while now and have earned some $$ and lost a lot. Just part of it.

If you are happy with what you have and what you paid, that's all that matters. It's worth it considering the enjoyment you'll get out of it.

I paid $1700 for mine after tags and title and all the gear it was something like $2300 so I would say you got a good deal plus mine had more miles. Like you said nothing you can do about it now all there is left to do is enjoy the ride

2007
I recently bought my 2007 with 2500 miles on it. I paid 2500 plus tax and tag. I looked at a few other ones before buying, but it seemed the price for the shape it was in and my personal price point I was looking to stay in, that it was the best deal for me.

Overpaying
Wait for the fuel injected Kaw 250R. Will probably between 4999 and 5699. Home they bring the ones they sell in Europe over here.
