WTB - exhaust

Just picked up a used 2013 Ninjette. I would like a muffler that actually reduces the noise this thing makes. The previous owner put a Coffman "exhaust" which seems really to just be a flair at the end of the pipe.
It seems that every person that owns one almost immediately rips the stock exhaust off, there must be a big pile of them laying around the country.

So stock, or something other than stock that will reduce the db a straight pipe make is desired. Also "cheap" is desired.

I am in the Chicagoland area.

Five words:

AreaP Quiet Core full exhaust.

It's not cheap but it's not crazy expensive either. I had one on my 2008 Ninjette and absolutely loved it. The Quiet Core full-length muffler gives the bike a wonderful throaty sound without being overly loud.

Thanks. Those are "ouch" prices to me:

$545.00 Full Standard Mount System, Long Quiet Core Stainless Muffler
$550.00 Full Standard Mount System, Standard Carbon Fiber Muffler
$525.00 Full Standard Mount System, Standard Stainless Steel Muffler
$575.00 Full Standard MountSystem, Long Quiet Core Carbon Fiber Muffler
$595.00 Full Ultra High Mount System, Standard Carbon Fiber Muffler
$575.00 Full Ultra High Mount System, Standard Stainless Steel Muffler

I'm hurting a little just looking at frame sliders for this thing. I got it for other people to learn on and for me to let loose on. So, if I'm going to let a noob ride on it - I will need those sliders but they run about 170$ for no cut ones.

I also have a 300 OEM muffler you can have for free, only the cost of shipping if you prefer. Couple of small scratches and surface rust on the fasteners.

OK, so I got an exhaust slider, frame sliders, AND the exhaust for $140 out the door. I can live with that, now to wait a month or two for delivery.
I found the sound thread first. The noise level seems reasonable.
You guys are the best! Thanks!

I have a stock exhaust waiting to get rid off from my room. I'll settle US$ 75 for it, but the shipping cost from Malaysia to the USA will be hefty. Most probably around US$ 50.

The exhaust is in pristine condition since I have not used it (my bike came with Arrow exhaust).

So the exhaust doesn't fit properly. My pipe is larger than stock, but smaller than what should be on the muffler I got. It uses springs to mount which need to be welded to the pipe. This looks like it's going to cost me a bit more as I don't have a welder. I will also need some sort of adapter fitted and an extra mounting bracket with bushing cause the pipe end I previously had didn't require support and I think one will..
Arg.

What's the difference in ID between muffler and OD of exhaust?

Is muffler round? If so, you can use one of those straps to hold it.

See the opening? I can't get a clamp around it. The images shjow the amount of movement up and down the muffler can make. It's probably 1/16th of an inch too big, but the collar is tapered. I suspect that the tapered part is supposed to go inside the existing pipe for a "universal" sort of fit. Then it's spring bound and the hooks for the springs probably will need to be welded onto the existing pipe.
The two photos show the up and down movement of the muffler.
The muffler will slide all the way down the pipe till the outside hits the frame and can't slide any further, so I can really use the springs to "pull" it tight.
My pipe is 1 5/16th's wide.
Also note that the big round hole is where the bushing for the stock muffler goes. I'll need something (rubber) to put in there to be able to support this muffler.

Hmm, hanger bracket can be easy. You just need a shorter version of this: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B006LPSIZW

To attach upper end, fill round hole with stock rubber bushing, or maybe bushing for an auto swaybar end-link would do. Then use big fender washers (larger than hole) on inside & outside to trap bushing in between and centre bolt for hanger bracket.

On muffler to exhaust, yeah you need bigger pipe to fit on outside of inner cone on muffler. An adapter cone can be made to fit outside of exhaust pipe and other end fits between inner cone and outer sleeve of muffler.

That part on exhaust with loop for spring, is that some kind of clamp-on part like a big hose clamp?

Problem is these muffler folks are trying to make one muffler design to work with both stock factory exhaust as well as larger aftermarket ones. My factory exhaust measures 1-3/8" OD here it goes into muffler. So you've got factory pipes too.

Aside from diameter mismatch, factory pipe does not enter the muffler centered and on-axis.

Factory muffler has an angled inlet so it can mate up with factory pipe which is aimed downwards relative to muffler axis. And muffler inlet is off-center towards inside to place most of muffler on outside. That's why aftermarket muffler is hitting your frame.

It's going to take some cutting, welding adapters and bracket fabrication to get it all to fit and seal. You can send all pieces to me and I can do that for you. Or we can swap my known-to-fit factory quiet muffler for your two aftermarket ones. Also comes with heat-shield piece to hide clamps and junction.

You almost can't tell that it's a rubber bungee cord / tarp strap from the photo.
It turned out that the tapered part was removable, so I scooched it out, use a drill press and three bits to drill two holes in it and put in some self tapping screws. Then I used the old pipe clamp to clamp the new spring ears to the pipe and hooked the springs to the pipe. It still wobbled so I cut the rubber strap and made a bushing of sorts to pull the muffler closer to the bike. It's a hack job, but only we know that. It doesn't look horrid if you don't study it.

20$ muffler, 24 in shipping, and it's installed. Much quieter that the nearly straight pipe that was on there. I no longer rattle windows was I pass by. I do notice a small decrease in power and I'm still popping, but less, so running a bit rich still. I'll have to see if I can tune the air intakes to lean it out a bit.

Thanks ton for the tips.

I am right on the other side of the globe. The shipping cost could be hefty. But if you are interested, I will check the shipping price. I have an OEM muffler waiting to be disposed to anyone interested. The thing is crowding my store room.
