what's your top speed on ninja 250?

Had a chance to test mine couple days ago.. long straight hwy with no cops in sight..

consistently topped at 160km/100miles.. bit more if I have wind on my back.

plenty fast I guess.. thinking I should play around with sprocket settings for more low end grunt and loose the top end a bit. Don't really need 160 top speed and it seems to have burned through my engine oil.

So far I haven't topped 90. Been there a couple of times but haven't gone faster.

I've topped at 100mph, maybe just a touch over. It was on 101 just North of Ukiah. There was a slight hill that may have given me another 1-2 mph. But this is in full tuck, chest on the tank. Safe to say though that 100 is absolute top speed on the ninjette.

I'm a huge fan of dropping a tooth in the front on street bikes. There are very few occasions when having the ability to go 100mph is useful. Much more useful is not stalling at a stoplight and having improved roll-on from 55-75ish for passing.

I have been up to about 105-107 going down a steep hill drafting a big ass ford truck in full on tuck. The min-nin didn't feel very good, or particularly safe at that speed though compared to a gixxer at 155+. I was not at redline but getting close to 12000rpm. As soon as I could not keep up with the truck and came out of the tuck, I instantly shed ~10mph about 100 seems to be limit of the min-nin on its own.

You had to ask
123 mph in a standing mile. But I hope to better that in September.

107 says the GPS. Downhill. Drafting other bikes. And with 300cc's. A bit out of tune as well.

How'd you get 123? What mods have you done?

I top out at about 110 mph according to the speedo. My gearing is stock, but I have a slipon and dyno jet, so my engine responds smoother throughout the rpm compared to stock setup.

I have done every mod that can be done to a 250 ninja. Some help some hurt some don’t do anything. Basically I have chased land speed records since 2008. To get above 115 mph I use nitrous.

Any top speed reading from a stock speedometer can be taken with a couple grains of salt. And I'm not sure it's possible to stall while starting off from a light with the stock sprockets. You'd sure have to be trying.

Yup, stock speedo is optimistic by about +10%. I was so disappointed when calibrating my Trailtech Vapour gauge to find out that my previous 100mph speed was really only 91mph.

With tow down straight @ Laguna Seca or Thunderhill, I’ve hit real 110mph (121 on stock speedo)@ 13K-RPMs. I have about +20-25% more power and than stock.

That is an option.....

I am currently +1/-3 on the sprockets and still able to pull from a stop without issue.

We are running in Arkansas September 28. I am in the fuel class using nitrous MPS/F 250-4.
But you could run the gas class. Track fuel and set a record with ease.

I am running +2 -3 or 16/42 and have not trouble pulling away. It’s getting above 12000 in sixth that is the challenge. 15/43 is what I run on the street.

Are you retarding ignition when spraying nitrous? If full-combustion completed too early, you may just be compressing pistons & rods rather than turning crank.

BTW - your front A-13 tyre should be arriving this week!

I pull a lot of timing with spray. Depending on the fuel I am using I might go as much as 32 deg. With out nitrous I may go as far as 43 deg. Depends how the weather and fuel types
And what motor I have in the bike.
I’ll keep an eye out for the tire. Thanks

Back when my '01 was practically new, I used to hit just over 105 several days a week on my 50 mile commute at 2 in the morning.
Flat ground, no traffic, full tuck. I don't remember if this was before or after I changed the gearing, and tires but I think it was possibly all stock.

Although, as mentioned previously, the speedo is a bit optimistic. I measured / calculated it at one point at about 7% off, so that would have made the supposed 105... lets see... 97.6mph.

P.S. Speeding is dangerous and illegal. I was young and stupid (when my '01 was new I was barely an adult). I don't recommend finding out how fast your bike goes unless you are on a closed track.

On another note, I also discovered (on that same commute), that a full tank dirven at around 55mph, drafting behind semi's whenever possible, can net 90-100 mpG
Better than any hybrid! :-)
This I do endorse!

whoa.. this bike is really impressive how much speed it can produce even stock.. may not seem like much but considering how small and simple everything is on the bike..

I'm actually gonna bring the top speed down by changing out the rear sprocket to 46.. still gonna get highway speed (I hope..) and dont feel the need to go back up to 160km again.

I’ve had an indicated 110 on my ZZR250 40hp motor. Which is probably a genuine 100mph. Which is pretty good for a 4-stroke 250 twin.

Will do better when I get round to fitting the 282cc big bore

I've got to just over 100 mph (on the dash board) on my 2011 250R. It only seems to be able to do it if I'm in full tuck and the wind is behind me.

I can easily get to 90 and I can almost always get to 95.

It screams a lot when I go that fast. I think it's a scream of joy though :P

I was looking for your post in this thread :P

123 on a ninjette is so mental.

Presumably a stock ninjette has some kind of RPM limiter. Have you done something to exceed the RPM limit of the stock bike?

One of the first mods was to change the ignition box to an 1988-1994 modle. This gives two advantages. 14500 rpm limiter and 41 deg of ignition timing. Then the next mod was the BRT-R ‘‘tis ignition system. This has two programmable ignition maps
And a limit to 16000 rpm

The power drops off after 12000 rpm the limiter on the early box is softer when it comes in.

Racer X: do you think your bike would go faster if you put it inside greenaero's (not sure if I got his username right) plastics? His plastics are designed for hypermiling, but presumably they'd work well for high speed too.

The rules for modified partial streamlining are such that his fairing may not pass tech inspection.
Aero makes a huge difference . This setup went 113 mph in 2010

Thumbs up 112 MPH

I’ve hit 112 mph on my 1997, wouldn’t go much faster with how light the front is, very prone to wobbles
