Brakes???

So hopefully someone has an idea about what's going on, whenever I try to depress my rear brake it only moves maybe 1/2 inch. I tried bleeding the brakes and made sure no air was in the lines and when I did that the brake lever would depress all the way while the fluid would pour out. After tightening the bolt back I'd have to manually lift the brake pedal back up and unscrew depress again and so forth. Thinking it was okay now I tried to push the brake with the same result only going down about 1/2 inch. I know I probably need a spring or something to get it to go back up on it's own I just bought the bike from someone and have little idea on what to do. Any help is soooooo appreciated please!

When you press, what does it do to the back wheel?

I will get some flack for this but if you are a new rider DO NOT TOUCH the rear brake for the first few thousand miles.

The back wheel won't budge if it's pressed that half inch but once I kick it back up it's as if there's no brake.
