Brake question

I've got the caliper off the front wheel, brake pads to be changed after I clean it, but one of the clips seems to be missing and I'm wondering if it's dangerous to leave it out or if I need to get it replaced (I can't find the right part number or tell how expensive it will be). To the left and right of the pistons is a little piece that protrudes. On the right side, in the picture, is the one that still has its clip. On the left side, it's bare. In pictures of brake replacement, they all have it on both sides.

In one diagram, I found a part number of 92081, but searching for that part number, it brings up a lot of different clips and springs, but nothing that looks like this piece.

Because of the grease and grim it’s hard to tell but it looks like both clips are there? I could be wrong?

Nope, one's missing. It looks like it's been missing for a while, though, given that it's dirty. I've looked very carefully at some pictures of a guy changing his brake pads, and he's got clips on both sides.

hmm...

I also don't see what's missing. Clips are often for anti-rattling. I'd say whatever it's purpose, replace it. Perhaps look up a rebuild kit and look closely at the photos to see if you can spot the clips in question.

I think I see what you mean. I would try to find a replacement.

Many times with auto pads they will include new clips, but I don't think I've ever seen them included with cycle pads.

I would call and talk to a Kawi parts person, and see if they have the answer and a part number. Or you can see if there is someone here that has a spare parts caliper sitting around with one that they will send you.

Make sure you clean and lube the sliding pins also.

Here's some brake related info that may be handy - https://faq.ninja250.org/wiki/Brakes

Yes, that's the part that looked like it was missing. Thank you for the part number and the notes on the photo. I'm not skilled enough to mark notes on pics like that.

ProTip: Use Kawasaki's diagrams. They have the full part number, and they're usually higher resolution and allow clicking on the part number reference. https://www.kawasaki.com/Parts/

The first half of the part number is a general category part number. You'll find a whole bunch of similar (and some not-so-similar) parts with that same number. You need the full part number to really get the right part.

Yeah, I've been frustrated at the partial part numbers. Thanks.
