[visordown.com] - Ride in peace

A MOTORCYCLIST had his final wish fulfilled when he was buried sitting on his Harley-Davidson.

Bill Standley was buried astride the bike inside a Plexiglas casket in a funeral service he'd panned for 18 years.

The former rodeo rider from Mechanicsburg, Ohio, died of cancer aged 82.

David Veron, director of the Skillman, McDonald and Vernon Funeral Home in Mechanicsburg, said he agreed to Standley's plans on the condition he didn't "come off that motorcycle".

Standley and his sons fixed a brace to the bike to support his body.

The Champaign County Board of Health insisted the 1967 Harley be drained of fluids.

"This was his dream," said Standley's daughter, Dorothy Brown, after yesterday's service.

His son Roy Standley added: "He lived to ride."
