weird noise from gas tank???
just bought the bike from this chick yesterday...wasnt making noises but today i was hearing some weird noise when i was in the garage. so i followed the sound n its from the bike...like the gas tank? it was like a low but not as loud honk mixed with buzzing? kinda hard to explain in words but every 2-3 mins it would do that near/in the gas tank? what can that sound be from?

If it sounds like a long beep, it could be that the pressure in the tank just needs to be released. It happens on my bike as well. All you have to do is pop the gas cap open and close it. This allows the pressure to equalize and it should stop the noise.
Another thing I could think of would be the fan on the radiator. Sometimes it stays on even after the bike is off just to cool it down a little. |

cant be the fan...came straight from the gas tank...funny cuz thats what my guy said too n i thought he was retarded but i aint never thought gas venting sounds like a weird dying alarm beep? cuz cars give more of a "venting" sound when u open it to pump gas but we did open it n its still the same...weird...but i just checked around older posts n i guess the 250s do that n its normal...

I know what noise you are talking about, I have my bike parked in the garage beside our lawn mower and I swore it was always the mower. I noticed that it is in fact 100% for sure coming from the bike and I have no idea what the noise is either. Not to be funny but it's like a muffled fart with a squeaky beep. Not beeping just one beep followed by the muffled fart its a 4 to 5 second long sound.

Whatever you do, don't google "ninja 250 tank whistle" because you'll only get 268,000 results which aren't helpful at all.

How I fixed mine was i changed the blinker fluid, then a replaced the thermal coupler wiring, and used 97 octane gas with the turbo charger modulator. Then I rode around naked and it seemed to go away.

@mz_twee: Just incase it isn't obvious from this nonsensical thread: it sounds like your bike is absolutely fine. It seems lots of ninjettes have this noise which emanates from the gas tank. It seems to be due to pressure release and is often triggered by change in the ambient temperature. |

It's the vapor concentrator fume flashpoint alarm. If it doesn't sound like a shrill beep yet, the alarm isn't fully active and it's not going to explode right away, but I wouldn't ride it or put it in a garage until I have the vapor reservoir exchanged or reloaded with more flame retardant. It's never supposed to get that bad. The alarm is only a worst-case scenario fall-back in case you are riding it when it gets to that point. You are very lucky. Another mile and you could have gone "BOOM!"

I bought my bike in the winter and kept it inside my living room. When I first wheeled it around back to bring it in, I heard the noise and had to put the kickstand down 'cause I thought I ran over a cat.
-EDIT- I agree with Akima in that I think the noises give it personality. When I first started keeping it outside on my patio, I heard it more (temp change) and actually felt bad for it since it sounded like it was crying. Even my wife wanted to bring it back in. |

I've thought that before too! The day I crashed, my ninjette wouldn't start. I called out a mechanic and when he got there he told me off for calling my bike a "she". He said it should be an "it". Only a second later the bike started "crying"! I gave him a told-you-so look

Im sorry I cant take people who really write like that seriously... I guess Im a dick. I dont expect people to use proper punctuation, **** I dont most of the time. But when you write where I have to work to understand what the **** you are saying, well, thats just absurd.
and @CZroe everyone was a dick to a dude who wrote like this and I did not see you speak up... Perhaps her sex has something to do with it? Im not a sexist, Im a jerk to everyone equally... OP write normal, or you will get blasted, plain and simple. uhhh that's two?
