Aftermarket Controls
OK, rolled my new baby home last night. Only 10 miles on her, and clearly gotta start the mods. Suspension is probably priority one, but also need framesliders, spools, etc, but forgot a big part: controls, ie shorty levers, rearsets, and a Motion Pro 1/4 turn throttle.
I've got all that dialed in on my SV650, now gotta repeat for the 300, anyone have vendor recs for this? thanx, Joel |

The thinking is that the hand controls sure look identical from the 08-12's, so levers/grips etc. should be already available. No info that I've seen yet whether the rearset mounts are compatible, nor when frame sliders might be available. Spools are the standard M10 size that the ninjettes and many kawis already use.

Have any of you guys found a good aftermarket throttle for the 300? I use a Motion Pro 1/4 turn on my SV, and it makes the throttle on the 300 seem ridiculous, but I don't think they make one for the 300, although it may fit anyway. . .

Controls look exactly the same except the changes on the left side (no choke, new passing light). I'll check the parts catalog to compare part numbers. If it's the same, the Motion Pro 250 kit should work. Look for the group buy thread.

OK, the throttle assembly has changed from Kawasaki part number 46019-0001 on the EX250 to 46019-0060 on the EX300, but this may be due to the grip changing, as the left grip rubber has a different part number too (changed from 46075-1144 to 46075-0564) and the actual right-hand control housing/assembly is the exact same (46091-0205). That's reason to believe the EX250 throttle from Motion Pro will work unless theres a difference in the throttle push/pull cable ends. The grip style looks the same and we know the diameter didn't change because the handlebars are the exact same (yes, I checked), so length probably changed slightly. That shouldn't matter if you slide some things around on the handlebars. Worst case scenario is spacing your bar-ends, getting new bar ends, or drilling new holes for the pegs in the controls and perches.

Cool, thanx CZ, how do you have access to those part #'s? I was thinking that since the 300 moved to FI, there may be different throttle cables than carbed models. I read the Motion Pro thread, but it didn't look like they ever got a group buy together, or am I wrong?
the extra play in the stock 300 throttle is definitely something I'd like to address with one of my first mods. . . |

take a measurement of the fork tube diameter right below the upper triple tree and I'm sure something from woodcraft will fit

We already know that the triple tree is the exact same so the forks are the same diameter and distance apart. We just need to see if the fairings and controls interfere with each other.

Aftermarket Controls
I went out and bought a 300 today. When I got home I had to confirm a couple of things.
My first suspicion was that was mostly unchanged that the rearsets would be the same. I had my factory rearsets from my 250 laying around so I decided to try them out. They bolted up perfectly. This means that any aftermarket rearsets made for the 08-12 250R should work. The upper fork tubes also measure out the exact same so aftermarket clipons will also work. I still have to check the exhaust, air filter and rear suspension. I have a feeling they will all be the same way. I'll keep you updated.

Congrats! Thx for the info on the rearsets. We had a hunch, but I believe you're the first on this site to confirm it.

Glad I could help. I also put some of my Pirelli take-offs on it. So far I've had it for 4 hours and I still haven't ridden the thing.

Is there any way to open the airbox a little to let more air in? Kinda like the snorkel on the 08-12 bike?

Yep. It looks like the exact same airbox. It has the same snorkel. Next I'm gonna try the K&N pod filter. Anyone know which one it is off hand? I'm still gonna research it, but if you know the P/N it would help.

The K&N R-0990 is the pod filter that fits the 88-07 and 08-12 bikes.

I sense some modifications in your 300's future that are meant for improving track performance Are you planning on keeping this one on the street or making it a track rat?

Both. The 300 doesn't have that big kickstand bracket sticking out the side.

I put the left clipon from my race bike on to my 300 and the bars clear the bodywork better than they do on my 250. They're the Woodcraft Ninja 250 Clipons.

Will it be possible to sit clip-ons under the triple? Or will they still need the riser that is on many of the 250R clip-ons? |

But were the the ones that are specifically for the 250R like these:
or did they not have the riser, like these: I only ask because I know that to use ones without the risers on a the 250, you had to either mod the fairing like Rexbo, or put them on top of the triple. If the non-riser kind fit under the triple without issue, that's good for a more aggressive position. I wish my pregen could fit real clipons so I could get more forward than my WC risers allow. |

Possibly if they were mounted on top of the triple trees.

Just raise your tail a little less! My tail is raised like 2" and my nose is dropped about 1/4" There's a little headshake if I intentionally hit tracks too quickly and keep the nose unweighted by pinning the throttle, but the bike feels great everywhere else
