300 mile an hour

This weekend is the speed trials in Loring Maine. It is a three mile track nesseled in the woods way up North. This is an old B-52 bommer base so it is HUGE. My friend Bill Warner will be making an atempt to be the first person to go 300mph on a sit on motorcycle.

I am excited and very worried about him. This is no joke. Twisting the throttle on a 700+ hp motorcycle has got to be something.

Just some crazy stats from last year. Bill has the track record at Maxton at 272 mph And the track record in Texas at 278 and last year in Maine he went 276 with the motor off for over a mile because it exploded at about the 1/4 mile mark.Dispite loosing the motor at the 1/4 mile mark he still hit 284 on GPS.

I will update with photos and results. But this could be History in the making.

Yea you are right. 700+ HP and trying to go 300mph on a motorcycle Quite impressive. At those speeds, correct me if I'm wrong, they have metal plates in their suits because lether will not last long at all in a 200 mph slide.

This is some photos of Bill from June of this year. His bike is to fast to run at Maxton. he made two fast passes in 2010 setting the track record at 272mph . That is going from zero to 272 in 22 seconds. But stopping is the key to land speed racing. There is a slight curve in shut down. from that speed it is VERY difficult to stop and turn . So they only let him do handling tests.

This is Bill in Texas last year

http://youtu.be/BBtwRAbul1Y

same run with the camera mounted at the back
http://youtu.be/5BT2JjzHa-c

this photo is from this year. But Now the paint is on . It is Blue at Loring

I've heard about the place. Some guy around here has a cert from running his Ninja 250 there. Think he ran 110 mph, maybe a bit lower.

Thats nuts...at that speed if your hand comes off the bar....the wind alone will pull you off the bike. You cant hold yourself on the bike at that speed without hanging on for all you've got. Was he clipped in at all?

Awesome!

I'm glad he made it!
Awfully scary that stop. Very shaky.
Who makes the tires that can do 300 mph?

Tires are the issue.I know they have a waver to go over 175 so 300 is very dangerous.I think Continental. But I could be wrong

That was not a push. His feet are inside the fairing . He puts them out to stop.Jody was just holding him up so he could clear the oil out of the turbo.and settle into the seat.

He is probubly giving him a push. I thought he was holding the bike while he did a burn out. When I first looked at the video. But I know they heat the tires with warmers.

Bill made it onto page 56 of Motorcyclist magazine; it's for a tire ad but I saw his bike / name and got reminded of this thread.
