Unhappy Tail Light Mod

I have a couple of things for my ninjeh in my Amazon cart... just waiting to press the BUY button.

I super want the smoked out LED taillight with the integrated blinkers, however...

...was talking with this kid I met who has a 08 600 ZX, and informed me that in the state of Oregon, it's illegal to have the blinkers integrated in the tail light! NOOOOOOO!

Is this so? He mentioned something about the blinkers having to be at least 8 inches apart.

If this IS so... someone help me find a loophole.

[Edit] If this is so Oregon has made me sad for the first time in while ...well besides all the rain.

You can add the integrated tail light and keep your stock blinkers then when you get a chance ask a local cop if you can remove the blinkers and keep only the tail light

Keep stock blinkers and bright stock tail light for your safety.
Cages have a hard time seeing you as it is with them.

One thing I never messed with. I'd advocate you modify everything but the lights.
Have enough problems with cops without lights issues too trying to stay below speed limit.

I agree. but it you do want better looking blinkers, go for the LED ones. just dont make them strobe. and if that 8inch rule is true, then you could shorten the length to the minimum. not sure about Oregon laws ....Good luck

clearly the answer is to get the hotbodies undertail to go with it... it's close enough to legal... plus it looks nice. but then you gotta get the rear hugger so you don't get that beautiful undertail all dirty... but then you need to get the fancy anodized steel mesh brake lines to match the fancier anodized rearsets that clearly have to go with it...

... hmm.

true, I'll go with the integrated + signal combo, it gives you more visibility and If I were you I wouldn't get the smoked led lights. it's for safety reasons, and I got pulled over once for that.

Personally Id go with the integrated tail light and then i would look at the LED signals Tri offers they are sleek looking and smaller and brighter than the stock IMO

+1000
Visability is very crucial. I don't know how many times I have heard a cager say: "Sorry for cutting you off, I just didn't see you".

Asking a local cop doesn't always get you the correct legal answer because too many these days really don't know the true laws they're supposed to enforce.

It's best to start looking up your local laws yourself along with going to the local DMV and picking up the list of motorcycle laws for your state.

I agree. It's better to use blinkers as well as the integrated lights.

I went to the cycle gear bike night yesterday evening and talked to some people about the subject. A lot of them had the integrated tail light and have never had a problem. I think I will go with it. Looks prettier and maybe add some of the smaller clear led to replace the stock blinkers.

Thanks for your input, dudes.

Look what I made in mine.
Thinking in safety, I put more blinker than the usual.

If you go with an integrated tail, just always keep it in your mind that you DO NOT have turn signals, while riding in traffic. Your integrated tail will have them and you might use them, but people that don't know anything about bikes will often times not recognize what is happening when half of the tail light is blinking yellow. So... just don't depend on people seeing and recognizing your integrated turn signal and responding to it. Ride safe and expect the unexpected.

Oh... and post picture up when you get it done

It is a US DOT regulation, not state. I believe the distance is actually 9 inches. I've linked the regulations before- possibly in the bike monkey thread

Rizoma makes some pretty bright turn signals. I am actually wanting to replace my stock ones with these. They are brighter, and smaller, and can be seen from all angles. A triple win! here is the link. Rizoma Zero-11's

Awesome model.
Safely, easy to view and are cool too.
Price since to be good too, comparing with china ones, it's not so expensive viewing the pros.
