Dropped it on my third ride!

I'm an extremely new rider. I bought the bike and rode 2 times, once 10 miles, once 20 miles. I got home to my apartment and my roommates wanted to go to the pool. Well I was still super stoked about my ninjette. I told them I'd meet them there because I was gonna ride my bike there. I took my jacket and shirt off and threw my boots and helmet on. My friend said, "Dude, you look weird wearing a helmet and no shirt. You should totally take your helmet off!" Me being the "genius" that I am. I threw my helmet on the floor and hopped on my new bike. Started with a slow take off, then started speeding up to about 30-40mph (WAY faster than I should've been going). Some random person yelled something on the volleyball courts and it threw my focus away from riding. As soon as I regained focus, I noticed I was coming around a turn a bit too fast. Anybody else that had been riding for at least a month would've been able to take that turn even faster than I was going. However, I got scared and immediately focused on the curb that I did not want to hit. As soon as I noticed I wasn't gonna make the turn without hitting the curb I slammed on my front brake and yanked the bike to the side trying to slow down. The bike fell onto its side and grabbed my foot with it. Luckily I had boots on and the bike slid right off the boot. The bike slammed into the curb as I rolled and rolled leaving patches of skin and blood all over the asphalt. As soon as I came to a halt everyone was screaming and I stood up immediately and picked up the bike. I saw the damage to the bike and I was depressed. Someone yelled' "Call 911!" I freaked out and said denied it and sat on the bike and walked it back to the apartment. I felt like I was sweating really hard from my head and noticed that it wasn't sweat, but blood. My friend rushed me to the ER, and I felt like I was in a movie with all the doctors surrounding me and rushing to get everything they needed to make sure I was okay. Crazy experience!

Yes, I know everything I did wrong. I practically did everything wrong. Starting from the gear to the way I rode. I'm an idiot, I know and I'm living through it now with the road rash and bruised hip. It sucks so much. I need someone in the north Atlanta area to let me know if they would like to meet and check out my bike. I heard its an easy fix, however since I know nothing about bikes, it's impossible for me. PM me

At least you looked good and not stupid like you would have with no shirt and a helmet while this all went down Or maybe not, you had boots and not flip flops, no shirt, assuming shorts and riding boots? Sounds like you looked pretty silly regardless of the helmet. Man you just can't catch a break.

P.S. I think I look bad *** with all my gear on, kinda like snake eyes from G.I. JOE which is only fitting... he's a ninja... get it?

Dude, I totally agree! With all the gear, I feel like a ninja haha. Everything happens for a reason though; now I know, even if you're going 100yds to the neighborhood pool, if you're gonna ride, wear the gear!

well, we all live and learn, right? glad to see this decision didn't end the living part. Maybe next time you'll make the decision to wear your gear.

remember to look through your turns.

You learned something aye? Heal up, get the bike fixed and ride again.

Take a pic or two of the damage, maybe we can guide you in the direction of fixing it yourself if you can.

Damn I love forums. Haha! I don't even have a clue who you are and you're nicer than all my friends I tell this to. I appreciate it and now I know! I just freaked out. My second ride I almost crash from not focusing ahead of the turn. Once I got that concept down I was leaning really low and I felt like a badass! Haha. I have no idea what made me do this, but like you said. LIVE and learn.

You have no idea what made you do this. Lets try the fact that you continue to make stupid choices every time you get on the bike. Stop trying to be a bad ass and learn to ride if you have not done so yet take a msf class or next time you may end up like this guy http://www.ninjette.org/forums/showthread.php?t=143200

I'm eager to ride it again! I bet that if the bike didn't suffer any damage from the accident, I would've ridden her to the Emergency Room!!

Thanks for the support, it means a lot! I'm gonna post pictures here.

I agree... I was really ignorant, and it almost cost me my life. Oh believe me, contrary to what everyone suggests, I'll be getting right back on her. However, this time, fully geared and at slow speeds for a few hundred miles before I feel more confident.

Yeah, I met this forum member that is willing to help me install the stuff. Really nice guy. I am very lucky to have been able to learn this lesson. It sucks, but at the same time, I'm glad it happened. It's the best way to learn.

I learned on bikes, and dirt bikes. That's why I wear all the gear I can afford, and I'm usually looking for something better, to make this not totally safe way to travel the best I can incase the worst happens. Ya can't make it 100% safe, but you can make it safer.

It's easy to find help around here if ya look, that's why I like this place.

Definitely! Hey man, whenever I get my bike fixed, I'm planning on doing some trips to PCB from Atlanta. I see you live in Northern Florida, and I'd love to meet you there some day.

At least you started on a 250! Could have been a lot worse with a heavier, more powerful bike.

Yeah, me neither. The parts for the bike supposedly won't be here until next week, then I have to install it, and I don't even know if I'll be healed enough to ride anytime soon. I want to do it before winter of course, but that's still not certain.

Alex,

After seeing those pictures, I feel very sorry for what you are going through.

You are young and will heal up quickly, .....and the bike will be back to previous condition in no time.

That will put you in the same situation that you were before the accident, which is not good because the very same thing may happen again.
Hope not, but next time could be much worse, even if you are wearing all the protective gear.

You need to get educated about riding a motorcycle safely and properly before you jump in that saddle again.

You are not a special case, many inexperienced people get hurt and even die during the first times of attempting riding a motorcycle.
It is just the way this is: riding a motorcycle is not natural to us, for that reason, we must re-program our brains to control these machines that are source of pleasure, but can hurt or kill at the same time.

There is process of learning that takes time, more for some, less for others.
In my experience, a regular Joe will need about six months to burn these new control habits deep into his brain.

MSF basic course is an starting point, but it only last two days.
That is good only for not sending you into the jungle of traffic completely blind and defenseless.
For having a good chance to get the most out of motorcycling, you need to put time and passion into this.
The most you know and practice, the best.

You can learn on your own, but that is the longest and less safe way.
Having an experienced friend is the very best way.
Reading about riding skills and experimenting about what you learn is good.
Some riding schools and track days are good as well (not all).

Protecting gear is good, but consider it the last line of defense; something that you don't want to have to use.
The more proficient rider you become, the less is the chance for the protecting gear to be banged and dragged on pavement.

My very best !!!

Bike size has nothing to do with it your lack of skill/good judgment will kill you not the bike. Its kind of like saying a fully ato m16 will lead you to killing more ppl then a 9m hand gun. Also that looks like a very simple fix 40 bucks and you can be back to ripping off more skin in no time.

Dude, you went out on a bike without a shirt or a helmet (you actually got peer pressured into taking the helmet off... really?!). I'm sorry, but even the squids know to wear a helmet.

Good that everything ended as well as it did under the circumstances you put yourself in. Try not to use up the other 8 lives on the bike, yeah?

Next time when it comes to riding tune out those friends and tell yourself superman isn't real. Be safe.

I completely agree with this. Thank you very much for the advice and the mature way that you put it in. I was being very careless in what I did and I regret it incredibly. Before I even got the bike I was looking for people to ride with so I would be in less danger than being alone. I was very humbled by this experience and have been eager to get back on. My plan is to fix the bike and start riding very cautiously and wearily, hopefully with another rider. I appreciate the advice once again and I hope you the best.

Good that everything ended as well as it did under the circumstances you put yourself in. Try not to use up the other 8 lives on the bike, yeah?

Next time when it comes to riding tune out those friends and tell yourself superman isn't real. Be safe.
Thanks man, will do. Yeah, I know... I look back and can't believe it either.

^This exactly!!!^ Don't even fix the bike until you finish the MSF course. Then go take a nice easy ride every chance you get.

Do you even have a motorcycle license? At least in TN you have to pass the MSF course just to get the M class license.

Umm, if you mean that literally you need to throw your helmet in the trash. Then go get another one. Before you take the MSF course.

And before you go anywhere near the Dragon, go through at least a couple sets of tires. Longer would be better. Doing stuff half as dumb as that in deals gap not only will kill you, it may kill others.
