Copied right from the link.

The moment of inertia of an object about a given axis describes how difficult it is to change its angular motion about that axis. Therefore, it encompasses not just how much mass the object has overall, but how far each bit of mass is from the axis. The farther out the object's mass is, the more rotational inertia the object has, and the more force is required to change its rotation rate. For example, consider two hoops, A and B, made of the same material and of equal mass. Hoop A is larger in diameter but thinner than B. It requires more effort to accelerate hoop A (change its angular velocity) because its mass is distributed farther from its axis of rotation: mass that is farther out from that axis must, for a given angular velocity, move more quickly than mass closer in. So in this case, hoop A has a larger moment of inertia than hoop B.

.........i didn't say it would be a big difference keep in mind, there is in fact more mass from the axis due to the larger rim width even though the wheels are the same diameter. although, it's effect on the moment of inertia is probably negligible......

happy trails

So... In short there will probably be no noticeable difference.

Actually there would be a very noticeable difference if we think about this for one second.

Your bike would look completely awesome from the rear with this done!

Ordered THIS real wheel from Matt last weekend, can't wait for it to arrive. I'm currently running a BT016 150/60 on the stock wheel.

Once it arrives I will post some before and after pics.

Big rim is a waste of money for track riders. The rear traction isnt an issue. Slap a 150 or a 140 on the stocker and ride. If a wider rim is ok per the rules, I would think SOMEONE would be racing it if indeed it was better.

ANYONE RACING A 4.5 inch rim????? (if you can)
$700 for the wider rear tire look?? (with a new tire)
Whatever. To each his own.

I don't run a 140 or a 150 on my race bike I run a 120 front on the rear. I don't sell it as a racing app. The rim weighs 12 pounds if anyone was curious.

Yeh, I'm not interested in racing so really doesn't matter to me what may work better for that application. I'm sharing my mods as I go with pics, a comparison and review once installed to help others who may also be interested.

Got my wheel today.

Unwrapped...

Next to our 2011 250 with stock wheel and 130 tire...

Some mounted shots...

After a short test ride I see I was able to easily use more tire, I didn't have time to ride out to some nice twisties but it was a good test still...

Thanks, I'm happy with the result. It was a pretty easy swap... I had to move the cush drive/sprocket, brake rotor and a dust seal and snap ring clip for the bearing.

Thank you. I'm not sure about the shipping there, mine took 11 days to be delivered. Total into the wheel setup or entire bike? For the wheel I was already running the 150 BT016 on the stock rear wheel so I just had to purchase the new wheel and swap everything over.

Very nice upgrade! Looks really good. I read somewhere that you need to watch out for the wheel bearing, you can change it to an original part if the bearings are damaged already.

I'll change mine also but It will be a conversion kit from ER6f mags, sprockets, etc. It will be more expensive since all parts will come from Kawasaki dealer except for the conversion kit.... I decided to do it because I have no plans of selling the bike, its a keeper!

Good to know that. Too bad for me since I already ordered the parts from Kawasaki before I learned that there is already plug and play rim available already in the market... I could have saved hundreds of dollars.

Thanks, I appreciate it. I'm loving this upgrade! Please post up your wheel swap too, I would be interested to see that too. I have no plans of selling this bike either so I agree, why not make it exactly what you want for a few hundred here and there... that's way cheaper than buying another bike and this is one of the cheapest I have owned, good cheap fun.

I know different manufactures have all sorts of sizing differences but I'm not sure a 160/60 would work. I think my Bridgestone BT016 in 150/60 is about a big as your going to get in there. Maybe Matt (ztrack157) would know the largest that would fit?

Woohoo!!! Mine should be here next week.

BTW... I was one of the first to try this mod on here (http://www.ninjette.org/forums/showthread.php?t=54118) and can say the 650R's wheel will have to have major machine work for it to work. I'll be selling off my 650R parts now (http://www.ninjette.org/forums/showthread.php?t=57233). I'm really looking forward to this mod.

Sweet, glad it's coming soon. They have to travel a long way so based on where you live it may take a different route, just guessing. No matter, when you get it the wait will be worth it.

I read that other thread, that is A LOT of work to do, this wheel from Matt is really an easy way to do it and it all bolts/lines up perfectly, no worries.

can u post full bike pics

can you post some full bike pics from the rear for perspective. I think I might pull the trigger, if it only took 11days to arrive.

I'm like you, the bike is cheap, the mods are relatively cheap and I enjoy the bike to much to get rid of it.

I would be getting the "Bigfoot mod" here. It will cost more, but the designer of the kit is my friend and it was too late when I learned that there's a plug and play rim already, I already ordered and payed for the ER6 parts. Good for you guys who will be getting the plug and play rim. It's cheaper and worth the $. Good decision guys.

Will do, won't be until Monday but I can do those and any other angles you want of the rear tire, profile, etc.

Will post pics as soon as it is done. All parts will be completed by 1st week of July. I'll be using a Pirelli Diablo 150/60/17.

I know, I was just wondering if you took a bit off the chain guard over the chain would it not serve its purpose? :S Because its there so your pants dont get caught in the chain right :S?

I noticed the same thing. Check out the picture below. it sure looks like the wheel/tire is mounted to the left of center when compared to the tailsection of the bike. It might be an illusion in the picture due to the bags.

I lined up the notches (as usual) on the swingarm, after work I will take a peek at again to ensure it's good. Thanks

I think it is a illusion due to the angle the picture was taken. If you look closely you can see that more of the left fairing is showing than is the right. This means the picture was not taken straight on and I believe as the bike is rotated, with the front of the bike moving to the right just enough so the right fairing is showing just as much as the left, the red line I drew in will come around to the left a bit to align it perfectly in the center of the tire. The mirrors are another good source. See how most of the left mirror is showing and little of the right one is. Hope this makes sense.
