Just a friendly reminder about your shifter

So i've read on the forums that this has happened to other riders before.

On the way home today, I had no clue why I kept having trouble with my upshifts and it would often fall back into the N between gears. Right when I got onto my driveway, my shifter fell off!

I pushed the bike into the garage and took the pic. Luckily for me it fell off at home and the bolt was on my driveway. Things could have gotten much worse...

The bike is only a few months old and just cracked the 1k miles mark.

Remember: Make sure all your critical bolts are tight!

Good reminder to check things out! It is amazing that the factory overtightend and GLUES the bar ends with the RED loctite, but shifters keep falling off.
In our best interest to check things. Thanks for the reminder.

Had the same thing happen to me a couple weeks ago heading towards Seaworld. I was getting to the light to turn on to the Seaworld road and started downshifting when all of a sudden there was nothing there. I looked down to see the shifter and bolt (thankfully) just hanging there. I couldn't fix it there so I waited for the light, turned onto the road to Seaworld and used the next turn lane not being used to put it back on using the tools in the tool bag. Now I make sure to check it before riding. I was also glad that the ninjette could still go from a dead stop in 3rd gear which is what I was in when it fell off.

Thanks for the heads up, i will be sure to check it before i go out and ride today.

Also if tightening all the bolts for the shifter doesn't resolve the problem of your bike falling back into the previous gear when up-shifting. What else can be done? Lube or adjust the clutch cable? Any help would be appreciated!

Same thing happened to me going down the road. I stoped at a parking lot with one bolt about to fall out and the other laying on the foot peg. I'm glad I always cary the tool kit that came with the bike.

The bolt on my new kickstand was loose and never thought of checking it before reassembling the pin that was attached to the broken screw i had and fell off in my boss's driveway before going for another ride. My safety switch pin was beginning to point downwards and the killswitch would of been turned on. I hate to think of what would of happened if this happened when riding. We put locktite and made sure it was in all the way. I think we should do pretrip on our bike everytime we go riding just like i do when i have to drive the big rigs. I now have a tube of locktite with my tool kit.

adjust your shift lever height.

How do i go about doing that? I searched and found a nice post about it with a diagram (the one where it says to make the shifter as parallel as possible to the adjuster ) however im having trouble figuring out exactly how to adjust it.

there are two nuts on the shift linkage arm. loosen the nuts (careful... one of them is reversed threaded) and just turn the rod. you will see the shifter go up or down. adjust it to where you want and then retighten the lock nuts. you nay have to do this a couple of times after test riding the bike to see if the shifter is in the proper position.

Thanks, i guess it was that whole reversed threads things that was messing me up because i was messing with those bolts but it wouldnt go. Now i have my shifter right. Thanks a bunch i really really appreciate all the help you have given me.
