250 experts....need help

Ok so I just got back from riding my bike. Last time I took the bike out was about a week ago. Everything was fine. So today, I start my bike up. Had to leave the choke on a little bit longer. When I turned the choke off, it seemed to idle pretty low, a little under 1k. I let it run for a few min then started riding. Everytime I stopped at the light it would idle low and if I didnt rev it up, it seemed like it would stall on me. I rode for about 1hour. Then when I got home. I hit the kill switch, and then some type of noise like a cooling fan turned on for about 20seconds. Not too familar if the bike has a cooling fan like a car but it was the first time I heard it go off. It wasnt a hot day today and I didnt really push the bike that hard as I normally do. Any suggestions of what happened or what I can do?

The noise you heard is definetly the cooling fan. You might want to adjust the idle up after you have warmed the bike up.

Turn up your idle when the bike is warmed up (see owners manual) This is normal in a new bike and will probably have to be adjusted again. After 750 miles or so you wont have to adjust it anymore. (I adjusted mine 3 times) Check to see if you have enough anti-freeze as its level could be low and causing the bike to heat up. (hence the running cooling fan on a not so hot day)

the bike has about 4500miles on it. I have it for about 400miles. Since it was working fine until now, could it be just an idle adjustment? What is everyone else idling at?

I set mine to 1500... just easier to read on the tach and close enough.

adjust the idle after the bike has been thoroughly warmed up. Have you read your owners manual on how to set the idle?

Who's handing out the cranky pills today? It's on the left side of your bike, peeking out from behind the fairing (immediately to the left of that power cable I installed):

Turn that black knob, your idle speed changes. Wait until everything is completely warmed up, or the setting may need to be fine-tuned again.

Hold on now I think you need to thank some of the others here as well. They gave you some good advice also.

i see a black dial but it does not look like the one you have Alex. Your bike is wrapped in a red cable. All I see is a black dial. Am I looking at the right thing?

Yes the black dial is what you need to turn to adjust the idle. After you turn the dial and set the rpm you need to twist the throttle and see where the idle setles back down and then repaeat the process as needed.

yeah, but I read my owner's manual before asking questions. how hard can it be? the fact that he's too lazy to open up the manual is what set me off.

do you want some juice with the spoonfeeding?

It's just a little thing. Not even as imtimidating as reading the owner's manual to your DVD player or cell phone. They don't even use any big words...

Kelly are using generic or brand name. My prescription plan only allows generic.

don't feel bad, the generics seem to work just as well as the name brand stuff... at least it does with me. either way, I end up cranky.

when you want to ride and the weather is bad is a good time to crack open the manual. but honestly i got my bike at night (as a surprise) after getting home from a late work project and read the manual that night.
