Brakes thread

There wasn't an organized thread on brakes, so I made one because I have a question.

I know Ghostt has a bunch of input on brakes.

My question was mainly about replacing the stock MC with one from a 636. After adding clip-ons, the brake line hits the gauge cluster making left turns impossible. I was looking at the 636 MC and the hose inlet is in a different position. Has anyone tried this mod?

https://www.google.com/search?q=636+...YnCM0Q_AUICCgD

So far:
-Can pregen rotors swap onto newgen wheels, and vice versa? NO
-Can newgen calipers mount to pregen forks, and vice versa? NOT without bracket.
-Swap out to DOT 5.1
-Do pregen and newgen SS lines interchange? WE SHALL SEE.

Any other relevant pregen brakes info?

All I can tell you is sintered EBC pads up front with galfer SS lines made a pretty big difference over stock. I feel like I can get maximum braking power now since the brake feel is more noticeable and easier to control.

I'm getting ready to swap out my OEM master cylinder, to one from a zx600.

Kawasaki Master Cylinder ZX600 ZX 600 zx600 zx 600 Ninja 88-91 43015-1345

The porpoise of this is it has a larger piston 5/8", hence more braking force, and better feel.

I've seen this done before, and it had favorable results from what I read about it, but I can't remember where I seen it.

We shall see.

If anyone wants me to post my write-up here on brakes, just let me know.

That'd be awesome.

Line comes in tomorrow. Need some 5.1.

I'm sure nobody cares, but I like the stock brakes. I've ridden a lot of bikes, changed a lot of brakes, went back and fourth with a lot of stuff, and spent a lot of money over at hel preformance. And the stock ninjette brakes with fresh dot4 (or whatever it reccomended idr) feel great to me. I can stop on a dime, and on a 250 I don't use the brakes enough to experience any fade. (Maybe I'm just not fast enough).

The key is a property maintained system, which some people don't do.

One must remember that just like everything else on the bike, brakes have service intervals

http://faq.ninja250.org/wiki/Service_Schedule

I proper maintained system will be fine for the majority of owners.

That's good, homie. Do you. I figure SS lines are one less failure point. How hard is it to bleed the lines? Never done that before.

Depends on the bleeding method, I prefer vacuum method it's fast, easy and works, but my caliper guide covers bleeding.

So far as a failure point goes, even Stainless steel braided lines needs to be replaced periodically, they do offer a better feel some say, but if your brakes are spongy due to the hose, odds are it needs replacement, Stainless steel braided lines are often cheaper than OEM, and they look awesome, and even can come in different colours.

Who's able to make this bracket? Or at least the dimensions?

Some Flatstock off flebay, a drill press, taps, and an angle grinder is all that would be needed. You could make due with a hack-saw, a drill, and some taps.

Am I missing something? Why the changet to NewGen calipers? What are the benefits?

The purpose of this is it has a larger piston 5/8", hence more braking force, and better feel.
The larger piston means you'll have to squeeze harder to get the same brake system fluid pressure as the stock setup. And the brake handle won't have to be pressed far.

Better feel? That's in the eye (ok... hand) of the beholder.

Good point, worst case scenario, I could easily change it back if I don't care for the feel. I have $13.50 invested so no big loss.

Honestly? Farkle reasons.

I swapped to 17 up front and rotors don't swap over, so I gotta use newgen calipers. I have access to a drill press so I will whip up a bracket.

Not yet. I used @InvisiBill tire calculator and determined 130/90/16 will be close to stock heights.

Stock tire heights aren't equal either so I figured what's the harm?
