These are from last weekend, the bp is better, but still not where I want it to be. I would like to let you guys know that my head is normally down more, but I need to get off the seat more. I'm a tall guy.

24 hours of this!

So I did the UMRA 24 hour endurance race. We only had 4 team members for most of the race. I got 3 hours of sleep the whole time, and I got wiped out at 4AM by bigger bike that came from behind trying to pass me on the outside. So painful, so exhausting, and so much fun.

A few from the last weekend at NCCAR with TPM and the TPM races, I shattered my personal best by 3 seconds last weekend and put down a 1:38 only 1s off of the lap record but that 1s is only the start of the real game

I would post a pic, but the photographer at my last track day was terrible. In all of the proofs I never once looked like Valentino Rossi like I know I do when out on the track. Maybe the next one will get it right...

I finally got a picture to post in thus thread! I need to get my head down but I am just starting to "really feel it"! I had a crash (minor with little more than cosmetic damage to the bike) during my last track day. Cant wait to repair and return! Thank you to @adouglas for purchasing the photo for me as he bought this photo for me and I had to take a picture of the picture since he has the Digital copy.

Been trying to get my head down all season, and still a work in progress. Definitely helps you get the bike turned quicker, I just need to remember to do it!

Might I suggest that you reposition your helmet? No wonder you're keeping your head up... you've got the helmet rotated forward so there's no way you can see if you put your head down.

Look at any racer.... note that the lower edge of the eye port is above the tip of the nose. In your photo, I can almost see your chin!

Appreciate the feedback, though I don’t know if that is entirely the case. You can definitely see a lot of my lower face for sure. I wondered if anyone else
looked the same, so I looked up other guys in our organization (the fast guys). Most wear tinted face shields, so can’t tell, but I found a few with a
similar look as mine. I’m not entirely sold that is my issue. My helmet is very comfortable, though I can say when the pinlock shield is in place
it does bother my field of vision. I have a buddy with the same problem of vision issue with the pinlock, (different brand of helmet), so figured it was normal with pinlocks.
I have other helmets (Suomy & HJC) so I'll see if they look the same. I will try an adjustment on the AGV as well – thanks!

Side view of my helmet (doesn't seem really tilted down?)

I don't know about that, but it really is my most recent track body position. I busted off the shift and brake levers when the bike tumbled after this shot, so I had to go home to fix them.

Yeah it does. Look at the sight line. You're upright, but the top of of the eyeport is really low.

Put on your helmet and roll your eyes up (i.e. look up as far as you can). Can you see the upper edge of the eyeport? If your helmet is positioned right, you shouldn't be able to. Check photos of racers in a full tuck. They can still see forward... even with the chin bar ON the tank.

Watch the eyes....

(PS: Love the paint scheme on your bike!)

I did try on all my helmets and I did notice a difference in my AGV. When I put it on, it does sort of naturally rock forward/downward. Probably a good inch difference vs. the other helmets when looking at a gap above my eyes.
It does fit fine when I rock it back...something I'll have to remember when putting it on. Hope that helps. Appreciate the tip.

Thanks for the paint compliment. I was going for an Italian theme on my ninja :-)

Here are a few pics from my last track day. This year was my first year doing track, and first time back on a bike in 10 years. I think my next time out I need to focus on getting my head down lower and that should force my knee out a little more.

Looking good, David.

One thing that helped me get my head down was thinking about pointing my chest at the centerline of the bike, rather than the ground. I realized while watching motogp one day that this is what the aliens are doing... it's like they're hugging the bike.

I tried it on my next track day and it was a huge difference. Trying to move laterally without also dropping that inside shoulder was much more awkward.

See how the sternum is pointed at the long axis of the bike? This is really consistent when you watch with that in mind.

Thanks for the advice! I know my buddy keeps telling me to touch my "titty to tank" I just gotta really focus more on doing it. Now that I have kinda the basics down and I am not distracted worrying about line, throttle, gear etc I can focus a bit more on cleaning up the BP.

I'm not really a fan of Lorenzo as a person, but he's incredibly smooth and has the whole body position thing really going on. One of the cameras on his bike points at his head and chest from the right side of the fairing (that shot is in the video embedded above) and I love going to school on that footage. It's a great way to pass the winter... I highly recommend it.

I know I go on a lot about BP and the study thereof... maybe too much.

I also know that BP is just one part of a much larger thing, but I firmly believe in the concept of getting the fundamental bits and pieces right. To me, getting the BP right sets me up for success in other aspects of riding on the track. It's all about simplicity...

If I get my BP right, it's one less thing to worry about or correct as I start to go faster.

If I start to go faster and run into a problem caused by poor body position (e.g. riding crossed-up), then I have to back way up and re-learn how to go faster all over again after I correct the body position thing.

Small steps, small steps.....

Slow is smooth, smooth is fast. At least I've got the first part down.

Of course, would welcome any comments/critiques.

My self-identified goals for next year:
Relax the inside arm more and get my upper body lower on the tank
Get my head more outboard

Where's your chest pointing?

When I first started riding on the track the stiff inside arm was one of my biggest issues. I kept catching myself tensing up.

In my case, the answer wasn't really to focus on relaxing the arm... it was to visualize myself relaxing my whole upper body and hugging the bike. YMMV.
