Howdy

I figured since I'm doing some work on my bike I might as well go ahead and say hi.

I bought an 05 with 1300 miles on it for $1100 and then proceeded to rack it up to 3900 in a few months.

Some problems started coming up like the stock tires balding, fork seals leaking to the point of the forks cluncking when i braked, no/bad idling, and petcock flowing when the motor is off.

This is my first (running) motorcycle and I'm hooked. I was planning on flipping the 250 in the spring, but damn it's a lot of fun.

I've sent my carbs off to ducatiman and they're probably the cleanest he's seen so far, but i want to start fresh.

So here is a pic of close to when i first got it and a pic of how it sits now.

Thanks!

And I'll add, for Ghostt, that I have an Arai Signet Q helmet, Joe Rocket jacket and pants, and Sidi boots. I also got my BRC and M endorsement.

Yeah I want to get a 600+cc this spring and make this 250 a track bike hopefully. That wont happen until I get a house. My wife will kill me if I spend anymore money until we have the down payment

Hi Andrew, good to meet you.

Obviously leaking seals need to be addressed, but a clunk on braking is likely to be caused by loose head bearings. A simple adjustment may cure the clunk.

That's not a lot of miles, but difficulty idling could be caused by out of adjustment valves. That's what caused my 2005 to have difficulty idling, especially when cold. After I adjusted the valves it was like a different engine, starting easily, and with an idle that behaves after just a few seconds of warmup.

Oh, and I was able to fix my petcock's leak by replacing the size 007 Viton O-ring on the main plunger that's attached to the diaphragm.

thanks everyone and thanks for the advice triple jim.

I'm going to check valves since I've already got it apart enough. It would also die if i stayed at 75+mph for too long.

I wasn't sure if i should get the gasket set or just get a new petcock assembly. Since it looks like its been sitting a while I think I'll just get a new one and be done with it. I know ethanol is not kind to anything. Also reserve does not work. I run out of gas, but it still has some in the tank.

I have the Haynes manual and have been looking for a decently priced FSM.

It's what the dealership mechanics used.

I know that the haynes manual on my cx500 has incorrect torque values that if used will snap bolts

Ah, not Female Seeking Male. There are probably a lot of guys looking for one of those at a reasonable price.

You should be able to find PDF files of the manuals. I got a CD from eBay. Note that you need two manuals for coverage, the base manual and the supplement that covers the later Pregen models. Both were on my CD, but some sellers offer just the supplement. When I went to remove my starter to clean and lubricate it, I found that information was in the base manual.
