Day of the Crash Photoshoot.

The day of my crash, my friend took some pretty cool pictures of me on the bike. I figured I'd share them here.

If you don't have boots, I'd highly recommend that you tuck in your laces. I learned that the hard way when they got caught around my shift lever and nearly caused a drop when I tried to plant my feet.

Regarding the second picture:

Most hazards (77% according to researchers from the University of Southern California) come from the 11-to-1 o'clock line of sight in front of you.

Even at slow speeds, you are covering a lot of pavement each second (44 feet at 30 mph, 59 feet at 40 mph).

Most physical damages occur to the foot and legs during accidents.

1) Look forward, and nowhere else than forward, while the bike is moving.

2) Both hands on the handlebar and fingers covering brake and clutch levers while the bike is moving.

3) Rear pegs up while you are riding solo.

4) Exposed skin = Potential meat for the pavement.

Lol, I only abide by two of those. I always shoulder check or just take a quick look at things I'm passing and on straights where I know I'm not gonna stop anytime soon, I'll sometimes take my clutch hand off. Although if you want to get technical, MSF says to keep your hands around the bars for complete control. They recommended 'covering the controls' for situations like coming up to any intersection. *shrugs* Everyone's a critic on the interwebz.

OP: Nice pics. I'd recommend getting some riding boots though.

Yeah, but it is not the smartest or safest choice. Super sports are tuned differently, more responsive and less forgiving of new riders mistakes (specially when it comes to throttle control) this leads to nasty accidents. Another reason as to why this is not recommended is the fact that you won't learn to hone your skills, you would be to busy taming the bronco and focusing on surviving that you won't be able to learn properly. No one is denying you could be a fast learner, I have a friend that proved that, and he moved on to a 600 really quickly, but still cherished how forgiving and noble the 250 was and what he learned on it.

True - but then again I've had a decent amount of experience on the 250. I put about 5000 miles within the three months of owning the bike.

Seems like you just want to justify moving up to a 600 SS.

If you're not a proficient rider then I would get a reality check before stepping up.

If you can deal with the upkeep costs associated with a 600 SS then at least get some boots.

then you should be ok, as long as you are comfortable and feel ready to move on, then do it. We are not your mom and I thought you had barely started but obviously you have not, I say go ahead and upgrade if you feel ready.

Yep, 3 months is an extremely long time ...(21 months in dog years).
Dude, if you think you have it mastered after 5k and 3 months, then go for it.
Although it's highly unlikely that you have figured it out that quick. It's like going from a Honda Civic to a Viper.

If I'm not riding with my boots,I always do this! Also to the OP, and how did you crash? What happened? Glad to hear it hasn't discouraged you from riding.

It was a hit and run driver. I don't care how experienced of a rider you are, **** happens.

I don't understand why some on this forum gets all nasty when people want to get off a 250? Or picks on others over their gear (or lack of?) I mean, to each their own, right? I always drive/ride in a car with my seat belt on. Some people refuse to wear them. I would never be nasty to someone else if that's what they chose to do. I might think "you're crazy" but that's on them. I'm not responsible for their choices. And the last thing I would do is insult them for their decision.

Is there some sort of chart or timeline, that tells me, you or the next person that they should ride a 250 for x amount of time or x amount of miles or a certain way that determines them eligible to 'upgrade' their bike? No, there's not. It's really bugging me on this forum why people put others down about their choice to ride.

i don't think its too much the choice of ride people are ridiculing.

it has more to do with the "epiphany" that some people have after they crash a motorcycle.

for some reason they magically transformed into invincible master riders. the trade off is that they are bored of any motorcycle under 600cc....
