I passed the MSF course!!

To be brief... I have always wanted to ride a bike... saw an accident and that put a chill in me and eventually lost interest. Beginning of May I just got the urge again and realized that accidents due happen, circumstances could be a number of things and thought.. "I've grown and am not a child anymore.." I did it all backwards though... put down a down payment on an 05 Suzuki GSX-R 600cc. Went to the shore and read forums regarding first rides and such and realized I was going to be in over my head. Sure I could learn on it, but a 600c bike is not one you want to make mistakes on which is essentially part of learning. Got my money back and decided that a 250 is a good start. Found a 2008 for 3K, 58 miles on it. (Couple got pregnant, riding career.. over.. lucky me). Bought the bike, rode a few times in a lot, took my permit test: Passed. Immediately logged on from work and registered for MSF. Got a spot as an alternate the following Thurs. Accepted. Some guy was late 20 mins... Just had the final class yesterday and I passed!! Hated the boxed u-turn but I did well enough on it and better on everything else. Licensed. Wanted to ride last night..but it rained.

This was a goal that I've wanted to accomplish for years. I did it all within 2 months. Yesterday marks the completion of that goal. I can't tell you how proud of myself I feel.

Congratulations. You made a very wise and responsible decision going with the 250. Everyone makes mistakes especially when learning. Practice everything you learned in MSF and keep your eyes open when on the road. Expect the unexpected. Most wrecks are avoidable. Give yourself at least a year and a lot of miles before you try to go up to the 600. I know a lot of people get bored and think they are ready with the 250 after just a few months, but they usually are not. Get confident and learn your and the 250's limits.

congrats and welcome to the wonderful world of the 2 wheeled steeds of ecstasy, where the journey begins with a single shift.

Met a gal on the beach who said she wanted to get a bike, told her the best thing she could do was to take the MSF class and wear safety gear. she actually wanted me to take her for a ride, but since I have no back seat, no "spare" gear, I politely declined.
(that and I am not comfortable enough riding solo to carry a passenger)

Congrats!

I started riding over 20 years ago, and had a 650cc bike. It wasn't too bad to learn on, but it certainly was not as forgiving as the 250cc Ninja. It has been a long while since I last road (my license had expired some years back and when I got my new one, I did not get the motorcycle designation) and decided recently to purchase a bike for commuting to work every now and then. I bought the 2009 Ninja 250r after a bit of research, and then I decided to sign up for the MSF course. I was actually doing this to avoid the DMV road test (and to please my wife), but I am glad I did. Not only was it fun, but I learned a lot of things. I too struggled at first with the box u turns but after a couple of practice runs, I got it down pretty good. I aced both the written and the riding test and got my certificate.

I would encourage everyone who has not attended this course to do so. We had 3 people in the class who had riding experience, and we all felt that we got something out of this class.
