88-07 tachometer question

I have noticed some of the 88-07 tachometers read 16K rpm and some only go up too 15K RPM. I know they dont rev that high and the limiter is around 14k, but why do some versions read 15k and some read 16k?

Different years have slightly different rev limits. I think the very very early 250s might have rev’d to 15k... not totally sure. But that’s why they are different. As years get newer the refs come down I think, because oiling issues at that high of an rpm were a problem and the engine makes peak power at 12.5k anyway. Now if you see one that goes to 20k let me know... that’s a zx2r and I want one real bad and am on the look out for one. They red line at 19k and are 4 cylinder 250s.

I think '86-93 redlined @ 14500. Then 94-07 redlined @ 14000. But due to dropping power-curve, no use revving much past peak-power anyway.

hehe... sounds like F1 engine...

Too bad the new ZX-25R only revs to 17k.
