Bar end mirrors

I've had a few cruisers. The view from the mirrors on them was always fine. I could see the face of the person in the cage behind me at a light. On my new booger green Goblinmobile I can't see much of anything behind me in my mirrors. I read various wiki's and stuff that cover mirrors, but they don't really say how good the view is with bar end mirrors. I'm addicted to always checking my mirrors to see what traffic is around and it's driving me nuts to not have a good view behind me. I'm not huge, and not ugly, but I don't want to just see a whole lot of myself in my mirror. I want to see behind me. Will bar end mirrors fix me up? I don't lane split here in Michigan so going a bit wider won't hurt. Also.. I'm looking at cheapo Ebay mirrors cuz I'm a cheap old fart

Hmmm, I put a bar end mirror on my 24 speed bike, I wonder if I can try that on my Ninja? Move it from the bike to the Ninja for testing.

Bar end mirrors will fix you right up. The stock ones are only good for looking at elbows. The bar end ones will give you a full view of everything behind you. I have them on all my bikes. Plus it cleans up the look of your fairing as well no more ugly looking mirrors.

Be warned though, getting the 8mm screws out that hold the bar-ends on takes an impact screwdriver or air impact tool with a screwdriver attachment. They are on there with RED locktite and you will not get them off with a regular screwdriver. Well worth the trouble though.

OK will do tomorrow. I actually have 2 bikes one with the bar end mirrors and the other stock, will see if I can get pictures of what you see with them.

I love my bar end mirrors.. The only thing I think most wouldn't like about them is they make everything seem a little further away than normal mirrors do. Once you get used to them it's no problem. (was going to post up a pic of the view but it's raining.. again

You may wish to consider the SW-Motech mirror extenders. They are pretty much standard first mod for many riders. Here is a thread about installing them that shows various views with and without: DIY Motech Mirror Extenders.

One warning, and the reason I have neither extenders or bar end mirrors, you'll lessen the ninjette's otherwise awesome ability to lane split. So, maybe two safety bonuses for getting them.

^This Is the only reason I havent gotten bar end mirrors. One question though. The stock mirrors seem to be at the same height as most car mirrors. Ive knocked a couple mirrors before. But If you took the stock mirrors off and just use bar ends do you still think it would be an issue?

Ask and thou shalt receive..Pictures of the bar-end mirrors compared to stock. Notice in the mirror view pictures how you cannot see the sweet red M3 in the background with the stock mirrors

but with the bar-end ones it is clearly visible. Also show measurements that shows the bar-end mirrors are about 2 inches wider at the bars.

Thanks for the pics...really makes a big difference. Where did you get your bar end mirrors? I've seen them on ebay for around 30 bucks. Are they fine or is there anything better?

Also would there be any reason to keep both stock mirrors AND bar end mirrors on your bike? Might look funny, but I figured it might give you slightly better rear visibility. Or are the bar end mirrors just that much better that they totally defeat the purpose of the stock mirrors...

I have been hating the stock mirrors since day one....I have to spend 10 minutes adjusting them and MAYBE I will get halfway decent viewing.

I have tried both and you just end up not using the stock ones. I bought the cheap ones from eBay and have them on 4 of my bikes without any issues. One time they sent me one that was loose on the stalk but they exchanged it for free no issues. Just make sure you buy them from a US based company.

I was thinking of getting bar end mirrors to clean up the front fairing and remove the stock mirrors. But in regards to my lane splitting I was curious as to if the mirrors you installed are able to be flipped inwards. It looks like they are adjustable that way.

These particular ones do not but you can flip them around so they are more towards the inside but you will loose some visibility. I have had mine like that and they work better than stock, but they work best mounted on the outside.

what are you guys who take the stock mirrors off using to cover the holes in the fairing? or just leaving them as is..

You have several options with this.

1. Just put in two bolts through the original holes using some washers to stop them pulling through the rubber grommets.
2. Buy some block off plates, there are lots on eBay.
3. Make your own block off plates using either old mirror mounts or flat aluminum plate.

I like option 3 best

i went up to cycle gear and got some of these mirrors.. i ended up using some black push pins i got from home depot, they fit perfectly in the stock mounting bracket holes.. might attempt to get some color matched paint and paint them possibly.. but im liking the mirrors!

Those plastic thingy's look pretty good. Are you OK not having the bracket in there to hold on the fairing? Is it looking like it is loose on there or vibrating or anything, if not you are probably good.

the bracket is in there.. thats what im using to put the push pins in. yeah i was thinking of taking the bracket out but didnt like the feeling of it being loose.
