Mystery open tube on top of engine

Thankfully, the '12 carb woes are finally behind me, just got the MOST WONKY carb I have every worked on with a ninja taking throttle. So now I am moving on to other projects, which includes this little opening I noticed. Is this normal, or do I need to connect this to something?

On mine, doesn't connect to anything, just an empty hose routed to ground, for overflow or air may be!
Not a certain answer, but hopefully helps

It does, thank you for taking a look on your bike. You just never know when you get one of these used, mine was missing both tightening bolts on the ends of the triple tree clamps, the side cover for the airbox, and the exhaust spacer for the muffler. I just don't understand people sometimes.

I put a breather on that pipe to catch any oil.

Interesting idea, I might just throw a foam baffle over it to protect both entrance and exit.
