front brake rotor

So my wifes Ninja needs a new front rotor. Ive read some threads on here about different rotors, and some suggestions about using OEM Kawasaki rotors but they are quite expensive- Bikebandit.com wants over $300 for it.

So has anyone used one of the ebay rotors?

Here is an EBC for $128;
http://www.ebay.com/itm/EBC-PROLITE-...670b2f&vxp=mtr

Or this one for $124;
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Front-Brake-...45d70a&vxp=mtr

Has anyone used either of these for any length of time?

I also tried a local used motorcycle shop- "The Chop Shop" (hotpricesnothotparts.com I think) and they said they are out right now. The Chop Shop has been very good to us in the past- the place is huge, they sell on ebay and let me pick up for free, and theyre less than 25 miles away.

If that's the cost I'd go for used OEM. Just make sure the thickness of the used rotor is still within its service limits.

@headshrink tried an EBC rotor, and didn't have a particularly great experience. Info in this DIY thread:

Thanks, but I am weary if buying used. Ours isn't worn out, its warped. I would hate to but a used one that measures fine, but is warped when we install it and end up in the same boat.

Galfer now makes front brake rotors for the 250, and their stuff is always top-quality. I have a few sets on order if you're looking to pick one up. They're less than half the price of the OEM ones too

PM me if you're interested and want pricing!

We bought the EBC today. I'll post some pics and opinions when it comes in.

I can say that "riders discount"- the EBay seller has not impressed me so far...

As the auction listing basically says the photo is generic- I asked if the rotor I would be getting is a one piece or two piece rotor. I want to be sure that I am getting what I think i am getting. They replied that "the 2009 Ninja 250 needs two rotors".

I replied stating that they didnt answer my question at all, and that the 2009 Ninja 250 only uses one front rotor not two.

They again replied that it would be in fact a two piece floating rotor.

We'll see when it gets here....

So the rotor arrived. And its wrong.

Another poor job by riders discount. We specifically asked if this rotor listed on Ebay as an EBC MD4162x would be a two piece floating style rotor, and they confirmed, "yes".

The package arrives and the first thing I notice is that the EBC package says "MD4162C", which I know is not a floating rotor. I open the package, and it is not. I check the packing slip[, and it also says MD4162C, so they didnt just ship the wrong rotor, they actually inteded to ship the wrong rotor.

We contact them, and they say they will send out a return shipping label, and when they get it back they will refund the money and allow us to buy the floating version for something like $30 more, which they claim is theor cost on the floating rotor.

Sounds like a bait and switch to me. The clearly advertised an EBC MD4162x front brake rotor, and now they want to charge more to get the one they advertised.

Screw that. They're jerking you around. Cease and desist. Sever all ties with them.

I'll be sure not to do business with them in the future from the sounds of that. Sucks you had to find out the hard way. I'd take my money elsewhere that wants to get you the right part.

I would dispute it, but they are offering to refund the money. They have already sent a prepaid shipping label too. So far the refund isnt a problem.

It's too bad the OEM rotors are so $$$. If they weren't so pricey I would have stuck with OEM instead of all the headaches the aftermarket rotors have been. If anyone else has had good luck with EBC since they fixed their tooling issues, please let us know. I really want to like them, and was very pleased with the service I got from Andy (EBC owner), but after a couple false starts had to stick with the tried and true, since my bike is the only way I can get to work.

To be honest, I'm actually going back to OEM pads next time too... they are actually HH, so really no need to upgrade, unless you get into some of the really finer points of racing pads, etc.

I have a SS line on the front brake, but honestly feel no difference with that.... but who knows, it has been so long since I rand the rubber line, and can't switch back and forth to compare... braking is adequate, but I feel it should be just a touch better. My very first pad change was to the Galfer HH (all other stock parts at the time), and I FELT like I had more confident braking, but after all the changes since haven't felt that way since. It is possible that I had a false impression as to how it felt because I was comparing a new pad to a worn pad..... that and the psychological effect of expecting better performance. I can't remember the last time I've had a tire lock-up, but I suppose age and 32K+ miles experience could account for that.

I'm really rambling today.... sorry if I 7500 the thread.

The "wrong" one piece stock style EBC rotor part number 4162c that I did receive was very dirty- it had lots of little machining bits left in the holes just as someone here posted as a problem. I did get the rotor sent back using their postage.

The good news is that after some debate, ebay messaging and phone calls, they have agreed to ship me the correct rotor EBC 4162x for no additional cost.

Am I happy- yes and no. This is what they shouldve done in the first place. When you advertise something with a specified part number for a specified price, and I email you to confirm that the price and part number are correct and you confirm it- when I buy said part that is what I should receive! No questions asked!

The rotor came in this weekend. Riders Discount did me one better, by not just sending me a 4162x, but they actually sent a 4162xc- which is the floating rotor with the contour cut perimeter.

I can say that the 4162c one piece rotor they originally sent was full of machining debris in the cooling holes, but this new 4162xc was very clean looking. Maybe EBC has different manufacturers for these two parts.
