Honda Announces 'Superbike Showdown' Summer Events

American Honda has announced a series of events to be held in conjunction with three different race weekends this summer, with the first taking place this weekend.

The “Honda Superbike Showdown” is scheduled to commence at MotoAmerica's Road America round in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin, which takes place June 3-5. Attendees will have the opportunity to try Honda's NC700X on a static roller. Powered by a liquid-cooled parallel-twin engine, the adventure bike boasts a number of innovative features, including an available automatic Dual Clutch Transmission (DCT) and integrated storage compartment. In addition, Honda will have a display of current production models and vintage race bikes.

"Honda is pleased to be working with MotoAmerica to promote road racing in the United States," said Mike Snyder, senior manager of powersports marketing at American Honda. "We think our fans will be excited with what we've come up with, and I look forward to seeing everyone."

Meanwhile, June 11-12 will see Honda setting up at*Barber Motorsports Park in Birmingham, Alabama. Honda's display of bikes will also be present at the Barber event. In addition to the NC700X static roller demonstration, fans will have an opportunity to try out the new CRF1000L Africa Twin and VFR1200X adventure bikes in the paddock.

Additionally, 2006 MotoGP World Champion Nicky Hayden will do lunch-hour demonstration laps aboard a pair of historic factory Honda race bikes from the Barber Vintage Motorsport Museum: a 1960 RC161 250cc Grand Prix racer, and a 1979 CB825 superbike.

Lastly, Honda will be at Laguna Seca Raceway in Monterey, California, on July 8-10. At that event, the series winner will be presented with a Honda Civic automobile.

The event will also play host to the American round of the World Superbike series, and fans be able to take part in autograph sessions featuring Hayden and teammate Michael van der Mark. The brand will again display current products and vintage race bikes, as well as offer demo rides aboard the Africa Twin and VFR1200X.
