well I bought an 89 250...no key, 1600 miles !!

well, hello there, I cant believe I bought a 250, but everyone seems to rave about them and heck, its in my budget, and I really dug them when they came out.... feel like I am moving backwards haa....so I picked up an old 89 ninja 250 ...came out of a storage locker with only 1600 miles on it and 1992 tags, so now I have to deal with the lien sale thing and there is no key and I need to clean the carbs and tank and brakes ect ect , get a battery and new tires and and and,,,,,if anyone has any tips I am all ears !!

Reliable as a sunrise with the proper maintenance. If you don't have extensive experience working on bikes I would have a fellow member here "Ducatiman" rework your carburetors if you have any initial trouble. I hope you're lucky and they work fine.

BUY A GENUINE KAWASAKI SERVICE MANUAL!!!

Get to work.

Those are my favorite!

Had a new white and red Ninja 750 back in '87. Really liked that bike, and that color scheme always catches my eye.

Suzuki is actually bringing out some white bikes this year.

We need some pix!

I just bought a fairing on eBay just like this one. It must be a 2013.

Do you have link to eBay item? I've been searching for bodywork for ages!

This may not help you much;

https://www.ebay.com/itm/OEM-1988-20...72.m2749.l2649

I have a daily search in eBay for things like;

* Kawasaki 250 Ninja parts

* 2007 Kawasaki 250 Ninja turn signals

Whatever. I didn't need the fairing I'm just sort of hoarding parts right now because I plan on keeping my Ninja. If you set up a search in eBay they will hit your E-mail at about 4:30AM EDT everyday.

To set up a search just go to eBay and input a search for anything, hit enter. When it comes back to you you'll see a little box that says "save search" - click it and they will keep you posted of all new listings for that search daily by E-mail.

It's not as big a pain in the tail feathers as it sounds and gives you something to do in the AM while sipping your first cup of coffee.

Bill

One of my favorite bikes and color schemes. The 250 looks nice in the similar scheme, but you don't see that many.

Yeah, I have about $200.00 total after repairs in this one. Beats $800.00+ for a new one. The rest of the stuff can easily be repaired but I might snag a lower front fairing if the price is right. It's kinda stupid to fret about the plastic I suppose. In 50+ years of riding I've never crashed a bike badly enough to ruin an upper fairing.

It'll be interesting to see how you marry new gen plastics to an old gen bike.

I thought I knew how to clean carbs. IIRC I had to pull them out and clean them 3 or 4 times before I got my first Ninjette running right (I've had 5 of them now)

When you are hitting the support section and complaining about it not running right, don't get offended when people start questioning your methods of carb cleaning. It's not as simple as a few squirts of carb cleaner.

Once you get it cleaned up and sorted out/running well. I wouldn't be afraid to ride it across country and back. They are very reliable and run forever if properly maintained.

That's why God created Gordon the "Ducatiman". Didn't know that did you Gordy? And you thought all these years it was because you were God's gift to women.

I almost broke down and sent him a set of carbs, but I gave it one last try and got the bike running pretty well.
