Rebuilding/repacking Muzzy’s canister

I picked up a Muzzy’s 2-1 exhaust system for a song. CF canister.

It likely needs new packing, has been laid down and has some scratches and a few surface cracks in the CF.

Is it possible to rebuild the canister? It has button head allen cap screws, so it seems like it is possible.

Is it possible to buy a different canister to slip onto the piping?

it's quite easy. take of off the end piece. might have rivets or button head. pull out packing and repack. try this

some say the muzzy repack is way expensive

I used glass pack (not a matte, it says more like a tangle of short piece and of yarn) from Area P. It worked nicely. Never blew out the pipe. Muffled. Success

Would that work to quiet down the Ali el-cheapo muffler? I'd like to have it a little quieter.

It should. That's just a glasspack muffler. Nothing special. The process is literally drill out the rivets, pop the end off, clean out the muffler, repack to your hearts content, put the cap back on, and finally install new rivets.

The hardest part of the Muzzy was getting the stupid end cap to let loose without killing the muffler. Damn thing was in there really snug.

The CF is cracked really bad, might not be worth repairing. I may end up purchasing a delkevic 18” stainless canister and see if it’ll work with the piping.

Remove Allen head screws. It takes a little prying to get it apart. I took it apart at the bottom towards the pipe so if I messed something up it was hidden. But didn't mess anything up.
I wrapped it with new insulation, r15 non faced to be exact. Then I wrapped the insulation with a stainless steel mesh to keep in intact longer.
Slide it back together, bolt it together, reinstall and ride.
Depending on your jetting, the louder it gets the more performance you are losing.
After packing it brand new, and doing test runs, I unpacked it and it lost performance. Not only lost performance, but it was ear bleeding even with ear plugs.
Or just buy and delvic slip and send me the carbon fiber can. I'll even pay the shipping. Lol
