I put my bike in storage today

Now, the withdrawal symptoms start to come on.

Since I'm storing somewhere that I have easy access to for doing basic work I'm planning to install a couple of bolt-on modifications like a rear fender tidy kit and solo cowl / exhaust hanger. Anyone else have any storage-time modifications planned?

I have many hopefull projects planned if i got enough moolah left this winter after some expenses i will need to pay. I need to have both side fenders painted and one needs to have the crack fixed,I'm still looking into the reflective flame kits from tapeworks. I also have in mind to do a fender eliminator kit and possibly put flushmount signal lights and HID lights.

I plan to go on a ride tomorrow. It's gonna be a beautiful warmer than usual day, a very rare occurrence here on the east coast of Canada for November.

It was painful putting it away but given the deal I got and not wanting to put new tires on yet (my rear has a big-ass hole in it from a nail) I decided to do it. Now the weather is gonna be great out here for the next month, I can feel it.

I was also thinking of looking into ways to beef up the suspension but it is close to just getting a bigger bike financially.

I'm glad I live in a location with mild winters. Sure, we might get a snowfall of a few inches here and there - but a few days later the temps are back up in the 50s and the roads are fine for riding again.

Almost never goes below 70°F here. Last time it snowed was in 1997, and that was a quarter-inch. Poor fellows.

Put mine away last weekend after a brisk cold 60 mile run on the only pavement here in this corner of northern Canada. Already planning for more riding when the snow disappears and I make the sojourn back south to the Maritimes for the summer.

It may be a long six months.

Jesus. I like Canada and all, but if it really snows for 6 months, I just don't see how anyone with a bike could stand living there. No offense.

It's not so bad. I used to live in Ontario which is around New York / Ohio / Pensylvania and where I was, 6 months of no riding was the norm with long, bitter and snowy winters. Here in B.C. the season is nearly year-round but I'm being a bit of a wuss and taking advantage of a great storage deal while I get to know my bicycle again for a few months.

If you are hard-core enough you can definately ride year-round in almost any province and in those you can't just switch to a snowmobile which are almost as much fun... esp. when turbocharged.

Norm or not, I wouldn't be able to do it. I'd probably lose my marbles(hurr, pun) after a week.

Pull the wheels off and get new tires. At least that is one thing you can do while it is away for winter.

I rode the bike to storage today in six degree (celcius) rain wearing my very well vented summer gear and it was cold sir. Cold like the response you get when you ask a first date about whether she enjoyed the Dungeon's & Dragons game she watched for the past six hours.

That is already on the menu. I'm doing my homework on tires and getting a set mounted before I ride it home in the spring. Same sizes, just better grip and feel, those tire guides here and on other sites are a big help.

I rode today. Went out to the track to watch the Historic Races. I'm riding down to Gator's to watch the MotoGP later.

I'd be riding right now, except I've got parts being painted(clutch/front brake levers, footpegs, wheels, shifter/rear brake) on both bikes.

We are getting the same weather Blue Raven was talking about. It was 65F today and I enjoyed a great ride. Hard to imagine that last Thursday I got stuck riding home in a snow storm. The weather this year has been Schizo--.

What is this "storage" you speak of? Is this some mystic right practiced up north?

It was 74 for here today and I was "forced" to ride this morning.

It's my first year riding, but I'm gonna try to ride all winter long. It was low 40's and mighty chilly. I might have to spring for some heated grips and a jacket liner. I'm just hoping it doesn't snow much this year. You never can tell in Seattle. I just couldn't bear to put up such a shiney new toy so soon after buying it!

I don't mine the cold weather at all, I was riding last week when it was -2, just gotta be a little careful in the corners since the tires i have suck lol, but otherwise the bike loves the cold! it runs great and seems like it has a little extra pickup even.
My friend lives in Toronto and he rides year round on his BMW.

Yeah, if you man up about the cold you can usually extend the season up here (45.68N). Fingers crossed the weather looks in our favor and I should have another week at least. So the bike is usually in storage Dec,Jan,Feb,Mar. Only if we're unlucky with late snow would it be 5 months. You really have to be up north to store it 6 months OR a pansy about the cold.

When I got my bike I couldn't believe the amount of people who told me to go with the full 12 months of insurance but apparently you can indeed ride year round on the island.

Man I love it here!!

Ah it's all fine. Most of the time, these things are pretty fun if they have strong winds and they don't stay for long. Between months of not riding and 2 days of winds(which you can turn into a good time if you've got a tarp and some rope), I'll take the hurricanes.
