Race Upper Fairing Mount Holes

Don't want to hijack the other thread so I figured I start a separate one.

Question for you guys who have drilled holes holes by the rabbit ears...could you answer me this (see pic below):

I have no idea why you've drilled holes in this area because there's nothing that I can see that would line up or bolt to on the fairing stay unless I'm missing something.

Please explain with pics if possible.

TIA

Some of the responses I got:
Quote:
I've seen several options for upper fairing attachment. The factory metal piece that the mirrors attach to can work, I have welded a little tab to the front stay and have a Zeus clip on each side, I've seen zip ties threaded through the holes. My personal favorite is to not drill the holes, and install a little rubber bumper on the factory holes in the top of the fairing stay; the fairing rests on the bumpers, but can move in a crash and is that much faster to remove and install.
Quote:
Sharkskins comes with the holes pre drilled, the mirror base mounts that attach to the stay fit in the holes, mine just sits on them I don't bolt or tie wrap them down.

mirrors, stock upper bodywork

So, I went and check the upper fairing last night and this is what I saw: The dip area is nowhere near the fairing stay mount. How did you guys bolt it to the fairing/hole mount? Longer bolts? And if I pushed down on the rabbit ears it flattens out front which makes it harder for the windscreen to fit.

Granted my fairing stay is bent from my previous crash in May I do however still recall it being exactly like that prior to the crash. Also, if it means anything the left fairing stay was not damaged in the crash, and that's the side I took the pic of.

The rubber bumpers I spoke of in the earlier post are probably 3/4 diameter x 3/4 tall, and have a little 5/16 threaded post sticking out of them. They are like a rubber foot you would use on the base of a bench grinder or something similar. They go in the hole in the stay in your pictures, and the notch in the fairing sits over them. Any wind pressure just pushes the glass onto the bumpers and the fairing doesn't move around.

Option two: The factory mirrors have a little bent piece of metal which bolts through that hole in your pictures, and provides two holes that line up with the holes you see drilled in everyone else's fairing.

Option three: Bend a piece of metal which bolts through that hole and sticks up almost vertically, lining up with the outside of the notch (raised section) of the fairing. Drill a hole in this metal and slide a Zeus clip on it.
