Yoshi Slip on Stinks

That title might be misleading. I just installed a Yoshi TRS slip on and love how the can sounds. But it's producing this really strong odor. I wish I could explain the smell, but I can't. Is it normal if newly installed slip ons produce a strong odor?

When's the last time you had a shower?

Did you rejet? Something got on your pipes or muffler and is burning? Bad packing?

No I didn't rejet. I was under the impression that rejetting wouldn't be necessary with a slip on. And what do you mean by bad packing? I kinda just slipped the muffler on the header lol

It depends on the slip on but I thought Yoshi recommended a rejet? Could be wrong. If it's not too lean, you might get by fine. Shimming the needles would still be a good idea.

Sometimes the smell is normal for a new muffler when you run it for the first couple of times. Oils are burning off and the packing heating up for the first time. If it's persistent, then you've got a real problem.

I was looking thru Googles and someone on another forum mentioned new muffs have a "break in" time when it tends to have strong odors. I was hoping some Ninjetters could confirm it. Or if it's something totally different

When I repacked my AreaP can, it gave off a weird smell, but I used masking tape to keep the packing in place. The smell went away after a couple of rides. Same thing happened with my roommates WR250, after installing his TwoBrothers slip on. It also gave off a weird smell for a couple of rides then it went away. I think it might have something to do with heating up the packing for the first time.

Not uncommon for the odor initially. The grease and such as well as the metal heating-up will give off a weird smell for the first 100 miles or so. It'll pass. Be patient.

When I first installed my 2bros it gave off some white smoke and a stink to go with it.

i have a newish <200Kms Yoshi slipon installed.

i shimmed the carbs and put 3 washers to be safe at 660m above sea level.

Use the bike to go from work and back 20km round trip.

1st big cruise will be with around 80 other riders this weekend, see how it goes
