sprockets and chains
I have been reading around a bit and I may just be missing it but I want to change out my chain and sprockets, I want to go with 15/44 but the whole chain thing is confusing me, I would appreciate a semi dumbed down explaination of the ring types and master links or rivets whats the difference in them whats better for just normal riding just want to avoid grabbing some stuff and it not working together for whatever reason

Don't get too caught up in the ring types. As long as it has rings, you're good, and any ring type other than O-ring is simply a better design meant to seal more lubrication and reduce resistance.
As far as master link types, most people only have the tools to install a clip-type, but rivet is better and less likely to fail. It's probably not a real concern with a 250 anyway. Just make sure to use a master link that is the same size and ring type as the chain which you can install with the tools you have. EK has a screw-type master link that sounds like a good compromise (uses regular tools for a rivet-like installation but costs ~$15 for the link alone). |
