Weird push start issues
Hello, this is my first post. i read these forums a lot but i just recently made an account. (today actually) i was wondering if someone could address the issues i am having. so my battery died today on my way to work, my bike was running fine when i left. then i tried push starting it. when i got it going in 2nd my engine idled at 5k and my rpms shot up to 10k when i hit the brakes. (back and front did it) when i pulled in the throttle it did not do anything.

Ummm....... if it's shooting up that high you def. wanna check your accel/decel cables and your carb's butterfly spring.
Have you messed with those recentlY? |

I'm not understanding why the revs shot up when you hit the brakes. Any way you could rephrase what is happening a different way? Not sure what you mean by pulled in the throttle either.

Your tachometer malfunctions when the battery is dead. It'll bounce around but that's not actually what your rpms are at

when i ride around in 2nd once i get it started if i pull the front brake in my bike will accelerate like as if i were opening up the throttle and the engine will yell. i used a multimeter to determine the battery was shot btw. i have not messed with the cables recently as well.

Something must be caught for that to be happening. Go to the right side of the bike and follow your brake lever down to the brake rotor. It's a very short path and if anything is connected you should be able to tell.
You sure this doesn't happen when you turn the bars? This would be because the throttle cable is too tight. |

Someone else had this issue before. Can't remember if a new battery fixed it for him

After you warm the bike up fully turn your idle adjust knob all the way down. This would be counterclockwise facing the left side of the bike. Then turn it back until you hit 1300 +/- 50 rpm (or whatever you want your idle at). If it has trouble maintaining a low idle then your carbs a dirty fyi.

it was the idle knob i just fixed it. it was somehow stuck at 4k. i used a monkey wrench and some good ole man power to twist it back haha.
