Neutral Light/Safety switch not working help.
Hey guys sorry but this is frustrating, I've been doing work on my Ninja, and the Neutral switch has been broken since I wrecked, I was fine, I wrecked on the left side, and my left handle bars are bent slightly, how can I check the wires that go into the high beam control, do those effect the ground wire for the neutral light? I've checked all visible wires, but so many are just wrapped in the harness. I've grounded out the wire for the neutral light, and it still didn't work so I know it's not just the switch. Any advice on where to look?

Yeah, I've followed the diagrams/the neutral wire to no avail. I wouldn't really care but it sucks to have to be on your bike for it to idle it. Yeah, I'm abysmal at electric diag as well. I may have to just ignore this. |

He is right... Always start with the simplest things and do as motofool always says check each part and rule them out until all you are left with is your problem, or does chone say that, coulda been CC, whoever said it learned it from the army I'm sure though

Just don't look at it, take out the multi-meter and start doing continuity checks, never assume a part should be fine.

I would rather fight tigers in the dark with a switch than to sort out wiring. Uggg....

If you take your time, and physical & meticulous check things, it's a lot easier than people think, often times people make it more difficult than the problem is. They start unwrapping the harness, cutting things, etc.... most of the times is unneeded and unwarranted, start with the easy stuff first, and then work your way up, looking for a wore spot in the harness is another good clue. Most of the times I have found on motorcycles it's as simple as a bad bulb, dirty, or bad switchs, or a bad or corroded connector, investing in a basic multi-meter, a can of contact cleaner, and connector grease. Just to give you an idea what you should look for, not necessarily these brands.

I usually require things before I go to the trouble of of testing all the wires and doodads if I'm sure it is a writing issue... You wouldn't believe how many boats I rewired in the army

Did you check to see if the wire is plugged in the neutral switch under the front sprocket cover?
It's pretty common (for me at least) for the clutch switch to go bad. You can take them apart and rebend the tabs so a good contact be made.

You wouldn't believe how many motors they blew either... No fault of the manufacturer though, a few people knew how to adjust the governors to get all the power out, and then they let idiots drive the boats
We really did need more power to keep the bridges from floating off down the Tigris and Euphrates

It's a really simple circuit. The bulb gets power from the same (brown/blue?) wire that powers all the warning lights and the gauges themselves. It grounds via the green wire through the neutral switch.
Check the contacts at the bulb. You should have 12V on the one for the brown/blue wire anytime the ignition is switched on. You should have ground on the green wire's contact whenever the bike is in neutral.
