Noob from Queens, NY

Hello everyone!

My name is Larry. I live in Queens, NY.
I stumbled on here trying to find a fix for my floppy clutch lever on my 2012 250R, found my answer and thought I’d join the forum!

I recently purchased my 250R from a coworker who upgraded to an R1.
I’m a new rider, scheduled to take my MSF course this weekend since so many people recommended it.

Looking to meet some friendly individuals!

Welcome! I'm glad to hear you'll be taking the skills course. There's no substitute for a human who can tell you what you're doing right, and what you need to do better.

welcome LarryML

I'm a bit east on the island. Never know ...someday we ride the Hamptons / Montauk area. Lots of neat back roads way out there.

I frequently ride out there with Brooklyn, Queens members of the EX500 forum. Next trip out, I'll shoot you an invite via PM.

Just finished the course today!
Pretty awesome tbh, I loved all the low speed cornering maneuvers especially since I live in a large metropolitan city.
The coaches were all really helpful and down to earth as well, one of the frequents the racetrack I plan on attending so I'll probably see him there often!

Hey!! I'd appreciate that! I live in Queens but I work in Syosset so I'm actually in LI often. I've been as far as the Hamptons (middle, I think, definitely not East) for work and I definitely noticed some roads out there are amazing so please do lmk when you ride out!

I've heard nothing but good from people who take their bikes to the track.

And once you get a bit of riding under your belt, you might check with the local police departments and see if they offer any additional training. Here in Los Angeles, we took a low-speed-maneuver training course a while back that was really valuable. Really teaches you what your bike can do. I went with my husband and a friend, and it wasn't this newbie who dropped the bike on the course....

Welcome.
Continued education is a good way to sharpen skills and at least make yourself aware of bad habits. One of the local track day organizers started a street school held at the track. I plan on attending at the end of summer to get a good critical review of my riding progress. It is also a good primer before attending there track day classes. Perhaps there will be similar opportunities in your area?
