Clip-ons or Rearsets... Rearsets or Clip-ons...

Hey People!

I would like to make my Ninjette have a more sporty riding position, I know that clip-ons and/or Rearsets will do this, but I am just not sure which to get first. How I ride is usually on the balls of my feet so they are tucked back more (unless shifting or using the rear brake) I know Rearsets will allow me to have my feet further back and be able to access the shifter and brake. I usually lean forward using my lower body to support me so that there is little weight on the bars, but it feels like I am cramped when I ride like this. Hence my need for Clip-ons and/or Rearsets.

I would like to hear peoples personal opinions as to what would be best to get first. The Clip-ons would be the Woodcraft ones, Rearsets I am not sure, but I would like them to be adjustable. I am by no means a tall person, but I like to ride sitting forward. I am also able to flat foot the Ninjette stock.

I would say it's all personal preference.

I like the handlbars higher up. Maybe because I'm newer but lower handlebars feel too "flickable" for me.

However, I'm really considering rearsets for mine as sometimes I'll put just the tips of my toes on the pegs. I find it more comfortable with my feet further up and back.

clip ons and rear sets

i have clipons and they really help with the riding position, i ride, like u do, on the balls of my feet unless im shifting or braking

the clipons helped but i think the rear sets would finish it up

I think the rearsets are a more functional mod than the clipons. Last weekend, I was practicing my turning skills with some cones in an empty parking lot and scraped the pegs way too often...I think the pegs are too low for "enthusiastic maneuvering" and rearsets would be just the ticket.
Also, I think the rearsets by themselves make your seating position more aggressive than stock. So I would try that out first, and if I felt like that wasnt aggresive enough I would go with the clipons.

Hmm, maybe I should clarify myself a little. I will be getting both Clip-ons and Rearsets, I just need to figure out which will be best to get first (which will give me the most benefit) as I am unable to afford both at the same time, unless I save up and get both at the same time (not sure when this will be as it depends on the total price)

I keep leaning towards one, and then I go back to leaning to the other, it is a cycle that has been going on for a few days... Hence the thread

EDIT: Joe, that is a good reason to go with Rearsets, I am leaning to them first at present.

What Rearsets would people recommend that have adjustable pegs for our Ninjettes?

Whichever is the hardest to install, get those first. That way it's all down hill from there. I'd go for clip-ons personally.

dude, just make sure you check your clearance when installing clip ons. The bodywork does intrude some when adding lower handlebars. It is easy to get into the fairing if you don't set them up right. I'd go for the rearsets first. It'll keep your boots from dragging so easy on the fast sweepers!

John, I found out about dragging my boot while going through a recommended 25kph hairpin at 90kph I have also read kims DIY on installing the Clip-ons, so I know about the restrictions.

Why not get both at the same time? I'll be getting both within the next month. Cant wait! I never planned on doing it until about a month ago, but i think it will make the riding position how i really want it to be.

But if I were going to choose one first, I would get rearsets. I always ride on the balls of my feet so my knees are lower and feet tucked back more. I think getting clip-ons without rearsets would make for a little awkward riding position. You legs would want you to sit upright, but you would be leaning forward to reach the bars.

Nick, the little issue that limits most things is stopping me from getting both at the same time... Money

Though in saying that, I have based the prices off the US prices converted to NZD. I just got a reply to a price request email and the Rearsets (provided they are the full Woodcraft ones, I am thinking these will be fine.) are a lot cheaper than I thought.

I plan on getting this and this while reusing my current shift and brake levers.

Yes, I do plan on getting the full set. I know I can get the basic, but I think the full would finish it off. Yes, I know I could get the basic set and then get the shifter and brake later, but that is extra effort

I am thinking that getting both at the same time will be the easiest thing to do.

I checked the woodcraft site and the rearsets as well as the clip ons look like a good set. My experience with clip ons is that I like them below the triple clamps and these seem to do the job with a "cheater" riser portion. The riding position should be much more aggressive and should take you out of the wind somewhat...a good sport touring windshield will totally take the blast off during those top gear/red line runs. Check the one from zero gravity. I ran with a Busa yesterday up the interstate, he left me for dead at the start but little by little I reeled him in and was right on him by the time he got off...that raised windshield works wonders.

Yeah, I also think they look good as a pair. As in my sig, I already have a double bubble windscreen and it takes a lot out of the wind as it is

Personally I would go with the clip ons first. I like the riding position they give. As for rear sets, I don't really go to the track and I would be too tempted to lean the hell out of my bike if I had those on. I already lean a bit too much with the stock set up. Leaning with rear sets is just begging to get my kickstand caught.

I have only touched my boot down once, pegs none. I have an active riding style where I get off the bike a lot and lean into the corner (rather than stay on the bike and let the bike lean) which reduces my lean angle, so I have no fear or concern of touching the kickstand down. I just like the position that the rearsets will put my feet.

if I could just say that the footrest extenders that ride2max sells are excellent imo! sure, it's not an "authentic" rearset from a brand name company, but if you're looking to move your footrests up and back, this is the ticket. heck of a lot cheaper too. I'm planning on getting the Woodcraft clip-ons soon to complete the ensemble. lookin' forward to the much sportier riding position!

thanks man. the extenders were $130 shipped to your door. yeah, a little steep for such a small part, but hey, sure beats $250-$300 for new Woodcraft rearsets that do essentially the same thing. now I'm not trying to bash on Woodcraft rearsets, that was the route I was planning on going until I found these. the Woodcraft rearsets, I'm sure, are excellent quality. but I liked the look of the stock rearsets, I just wanted them in a more racy position...*poof* in jumps ride2max with his extenders. I like 'em and would recommend them to anyone!

Actually, if you reuse your stock shift and brake lever, they cost $189.00.

Yeah, thats the only downside of Woodcraft's. Im not too picky on where they are.. 2 inches back and 1 inch up sounds good enough to me.

Anyone know how Woodcraft rearsets hold up in a crash? Are they designed to have only the peg break off?
