RPM..Cruising?!

What RPM do you guys usually cruise at?

Just a weird but interesting question...everyone tends to like different ranges, when I first started riding i'de go 6-7 just because it sounds amazing, but now I don't want to overheat so I try to go 4-5

When going above 40mph, I like to be in the 8k+ range... it has the most get up and go for me if I want to speed up for some reason.

So until this point of the thread only one person knows how to utilize the engine on a ninja 250. Now two. That's incredible. No probs, to each their own, just hope that if a person stays below/at 6-7k rpm their staying well below even highway posted speed limits so as to not harm their engine. Personally I rev my engine at least that high, continually, so she loves me, and that's even at a red light. Moving I give her full throttle for fear of being dis-owned. Eventually we get along hummingly well at 11k rpm, even though she's got plenty left. she knows I have a higher authority named deputy I see sometimes and must answer to. NOTE; I live in Florida, if you're doing 80 you can't even be in the outside lane. The most important thing is; everyone has their own thing and it's all cool on a ninjette, for me even just sitting on my girl in the driveway. Peace out all, do what YOU do, ride on.

I have been cruising around 8000 lately. I use to keep it around 6000 in the hopes of conserving gas but it doesn't seem to make that much of a difference. I do a lot of highway riding to work where I am pegged out for at least 5 miles. That needle gets stuck at 95 mph and won't go anymore and the RPMs are screaming around 11500

I'm usually cruising 7-8 so I've got easy access to that nice part of curve from there up to 10.5 where HP flattens out and torque starts to dump. And if you want to get the blue line instead of the red, get an Area P exhaust system - they kick ass.

10-11k rpm in 6th gear. Just did the shimming mod, along with snorkle, and my bike is super smooth now...

Really considering the Area P exhaust now.

Crusing: Depends on the traffic and situation, but if I'm just putting around I put it in 6th gear and just go. That works out to about roughly:
RPM = speed * 100 + 1000

If I'm in traffic I might pop it down a gear so I can dart better. If I'm fixing to pass someone, I might go to 4th or 5th to get the extra torque so I can zip past them before they do something stupid.

Accelerating: Always around 12K.

I'm going to have to slow it down though. All this zipping and darting has affected my gas mileage. When I first got the bike and was learning to ride, I rarely went over 45 mph and my gas mileage was about 80 mpg. Now its around 58 mpg. I hate that.

============

Also, regarding overheating, my bike only does this when I ride too slow. If I speed up, it cools down. Ninjas hate riding slow.
