Does too much oil cause problems?

Would it be possible that me having too much oil (the little oil window is probably more than 100% full, as in over the window a bit) in the engine be causing my temp lamp to constantly turn on? Even after riding for not tooooo long ~15-20 min.

Bike is stock, everything stock stock stock! Except cosmetics =p

Also today I pulled up to a stop sign, bike shut off and oil lamp came on along with temp light =[

I'm not realy sure if that would be the problem but I highly reccomend that you drain some oil out and see if the problem persists.

According to the SM, too much oil can cause the bike to overheat, as well as too high a viscosity, or poor quality oil. You should also check if your coolant. is low. Drain out the excess oil (do not try to siphon it off). Also check to make sure the fan is coming on.
Does the bike shut off all the time or this a one incident? The oil and temp light should come on with the engine not running and go off as soon as the bike is running.

Too much oil is just as bad as not enough. If the crank can bathe in the oil, it will cause it to foam during engine operation. The air bubbles reduce oil pressure. I assume the excess friction causes the temperature to increase.

I don't think you should ever need to fill it that close to the max line. Right in the middle of the two lines on that window is where I leave my oil level. Never had issues.

Yep, too much oil increases the possibility of cavitation which can cause temperature increases as well as possible engine damage.

^^^ LOL

I just went out and drained my excess oil, I knew I had just a tad too much in there.
Came out to be about a cups worth.

Oil now sits at about 1/16-1/8" below full line when bike is level.

Have you ran the bike yet to see if the problem has gone away?

Don't siphon it out with anything, you run the risk of dropping it into the engine. I read a case of someone dropping a plastic straw in there. He stupidly ran the engine with it in, but got lucky when he was able to pull it out after, unscathed.

Drain the oil into a clean pan, and refill the engine with that oil, obviously with the right amount this time.

No need in draining it completely. Let some drain out and then quickly screw the plug back in.
