CBR250R versus Ninja 250 in the straights

Slow day at work and thought it was interesting.

i love what the guy on the honda says... roughly translates to "its no use" as in the honda is not even competetive in the straights and the guy knows it. fun stuff but i hear its a little bit different in corners

I presume this is a non-USA or non-UK video as the speedometer display on the Honda was indicating 147 at one point. I don't think a 250 would go 147 if you dropped it out of an airplane!

Man... and I feel underpowered on the 250 at times... I could only imagine what riding the CBR 250R would feel like Glad I'll never have to find out

I agree with this statement 100%. I could do U-turns way better than my friends with SV650s.

Hahaha, I need to practice u turns in a parking lot a bit more. I did a couple over the summer on the road, but I kept going out too wide.

actually the cbr is way more torquey than the ninja. So if you feel under powered on the ninja.. the cbr feels better esp for lower rpm riding. After getting a 600 though they both feel like mopeds to me honestly. still fun in the corners though. I could care less about going straight on a 250.

It supposedly only feels torquier in the lower-mid rpms. The video shows proof of that since the ninja started pulling away after 70kms or so. The CBR was most likely ahead up until that point.

That would only matter if you never planned on going over 35mph. I think we can all agree you can't go many places and stay under 35 without getting run over. Thanks... but I'll stick to the Ninja 250R over the CBR 250 any day of the week and twice on Sunday

Under 35? Not according to the dyno i have. I can post if you like. I think this video is with a FI version which is kicking out a bit more hp. Also you have to short shift to keep pulling. All my friends have ninja 250 and they arent pulling away from me until we get to about 70-75 mph then youll start to leave. Its about even until then But stick to your ninja. Its a great bike in the corners. No argument here.

Problem with test/comparison/etc.: Too many variables - Rider skills and weight to name a couple; therefore different results.

Rider Magazine did a drag race and roll-ons comparison in their May 2011 article:

Quote:
Out in the countryside, we figured a little casual drag racing would go unnoticed; luckily, that was true. Engines revving, clutches slipping, tires not spinning, we launched them three times to confirm our findings. The lowered geared Honda leapt ahead on each run, keeping a wheel in front through the first three gears before the Ninja motored past. Roll-ons came next. Opening the throttles from 60 mph in both fifth and six gears, we got the same results as the drags: the Honda lurched forward until the Kawi found its powerband and pulled ahead. The Ninja’s punch comes above 9,000 rpm, about 70 mph in sixth. The Honda is pulling 7,400 rpm at that speed and is still making power, but not enough to stay with the Kawasaki.

Isn't the Honda a single? That would limit the top end for sure.
