Coolant overflow and overheating Help Please.
Was riding one day and didn't notice that my hose that connects to the water pump came undone so of curse all my coolant came out. was probably riding a wile before i finally noticed only good thing is was winter time when it happen so it was nice and fresh/cold out.
so i reconnected the hose and refilled it with coolant (yes i used the right kind got the coolant at the Kawasaki place) and burped the system. took it for a long ride and still overheating and coolant coming out of the reserve hose. decided to test my thermostat to see if it was opening up and it is. i have noticed that my fan does not like to come on so i jury rigged a switch to it to turn it on manually. could not test the fan sensor case i didn't have a volt meter, hence the jury rigged part. took it again for a long ride again, i would ride slow like if i was in traffic and occasionally stop. Sure enough the temp gauge start to climb so once it past the half way i turned the fan on. temp seem to stay constant as soon as picked up a little more speed only used first and second gear the temp gauge would go down FINALLY no overheating. but of curse if im in the upper gears it doesn't overheat only in stop and go traffic. so hopefully my switch will solve that problem. BUT it still overflows, not alot this time. before it would leave a big puddle and i could hear the water boiling so fellow bikers what could be my problem for the overflow and overheating? i was thinking a bad radiator cap (hopefully overheating is fixed will ride more to be sure) thanks for any help oooo i did change my oil recently and i did not seem milky at all normal black |

hard to say. maybe running without coolant overheated some seals and closed off some of the water passages?

Why are you avoiding fixing the fan switch?

Are you sure the fan switch is broke. Mine doesn't come on until the needle is right up against the red.
Also, the bike is not overheating until it gets into the red. But if you are getting boiling and coolant overflowing then you probably are. You may have damaged the water pump. |

If the radiator cap is not keeping the proper pressure, the coolant could reach the boiling point. The generated steam pushes the liquid out an difficult the cooling of the engine.
