Gas @ $4.60/gal

I just filled up my tank and was in awe when I saw that regular gas was $4.60/gal. A few days ago, it was $4.19.

Next thing you know people are going to start requesting a pedaling mod for the 250's.

You lucky one...

Up north in our beautiful city it's 5.678$/gal or 1.50$/liter.

but hey, we're still better than our European folks...

I do miss my little ninjette. I routinely squeezed out 60+mpg out of that thing, even with the Yoshi RS3 exhaust.

Compared to the 22mpg avg I see in my Impala....

Gas Prices

I was just watching the news and was shocked (not) by the gas prices in Cali. Close to $5.00 and going up again in November. What a great place to live. Hopefully everyone out there will now buy (coal driven) electric cars.

I say give CA back to Mexico. I really didn't mean that (or did I).

I've always have fun whenever I visit Cali (even though I don't speak Spanish). The smog makes for beautiful purple sunsets over LA, besides burning my sinuses. The weather is always perfect, but usually too cold for a Florida boy. The coast is great, once the fog burns off and you can see it, late in the afternoon. The roads are twisty, hilly, challenging pieces of asphalt (now I see why everyone likes it there). I can't wait to go back (after the bankruptcy).

Having only been to San Dieigo in '86, and the San Francisco Bay Area - to include Yosemite and The El Dorado wine country twice '09 and '12... I've got limited personal experience view.

San Diego was okay but I didn't have time to realy explore. The bay area (and SF) is fasinating but I surely wouldn't want to live there.

But back on subject... here in Charlotte I can find gas today for $3.63. SC is about $3.40 - $3.45.... it's just a little to far to make it cost effective to drive down there. BUT.... if I find myself in south Charlotte, in the CAGE (a '01 Silverado with a tank that can hold 27 gals) with less than 1/2 tank, I will make the 3 mile drive into SC for a fill up.

If you've got an Adroid, install the GasBuddy app... great to find cheap gas...

with these gas prices, the ninja 300 is looking like a mighty fine bike at 80mpg.
I'm trying to hold back from buying it.

If you do let us know. I'll be on the way to the dealer proto....

on another note, on Saturday at asked the one of the local Ninjette dealers (Matthews, NC) about the 300. He tells me "They haven't been released yet". Told him about all the guys that have them "on the street already"...

Turns out none of the local closest dealers have seen a 300 yet. Guess there are some advantages to being on the west coast. A check of Cycle Trader shows them all around the area though. Some say call for price, others list $4799 and there is only one ABS bike - $5499.

The majority of it is tax, the fuel itself is about 40p if even

Hypermiling isn't popular over here, some of the techniques in that link would get you killed very quickly, but even the coasting to the lights & similar is uncommon. If a cage doesn't show brake lights it'll probably get rear ended.

I do certain things similar to hypermiling techniques, not really for fuel efficiency, but it's just part of the system I've been trained in (look far enough ahead, see the gap you intend to be in & set your pace to be able to merge in without braking, set the pace to arrive to the lights just as they go green)

Just as a thought, you could adjust your brake lever so that the light comes on without applying the binders... just a thought... every little bit helps.

But above all... play the hand your dealt....

Peace!
