new horn-Blazer Claxon Low Tone

Hi. Installed a Blazer Claxon Low Tone horn ($15.99 at Autozone) today
Pretty easy/straight forward-except for the frustration of getting to the damn nut with the fairings on

This worked for me:
lying on the ground on my back, head near the front tire, on the clutch side (port side? in nautical terms?)
reached up from underneath, grabbed farm side of horn with left hand and pulled toward myself, bending (intentionally) the mounting bracket toward me. This gave me much better access to the mounting nut! Then simply removed old horn, installed new one, and bent bracket back into place.

Not sure it's any louder, but it doesn't sound like a motorcycle horn-doesn't really sound like any car horn I've heard either, but that's ok

Might want to consider turning it 180 degree's so the "horn" part is facing down. Even 90 degree's would work. Pretty much have a funnel begging for rain or wash water right now. Nice find though!

To fully realize the benefits of any horn upgrade, you should always run a new power wire and relay.

Isn't the need for a relay determined by the power demands of the new horn?

Spence: What are the specs on the packaging?

Thanks, Snake

Why, Bob, unless there is something different about its power requirements?
(just asking, not disputing the need)

Jason-I'll have to see if I can find the packaging

I installed the Freeway blaster on my first bike. I was less than thrilled with the performance. Yeah, it was a bit louder with a different tone, but I coudn't grasp why everyone raved about them. A more experienced wrench told me that I should run a new power wire from the battery and relay (relay was so the line was not hot all the time) to the horn. Holy crap what a difference! And once you step up to the *really* loud horns (Stebel Nautilus) you definitely need it, since the power draw and amps are too high for the stock wiring.

For yours, you may not need it, but since it only takes a couple feet of wire, a relay and about 15 minutes or so (with the tank off), it's well worth it IMO.

If you choose to use a relay... make sure you pick up one for marine applications. Ask me how I know.
